“Nice quiet location!”
Reviewed 30 April 2010

We have just returned from 2 nights at this hotel, It is located on the Lido island, its about a 15 minute walk from the water bus stop and the main street of the lido, although it felt a bit of a walk it was actually nice to be in such a quiet location after a busy day sightseeing!
The room we were in was in the building at the back, it was a nice enough room, it is not luxurious but it was comfy and clean enough! We had a balcony overlooking the garden, the bathroom was a slightly weird set up with everything apart from the shower in it then the otherside of the corridor a seperate shower (all within the room, hard to explain). In the room was a mini bar, safe and hair dryer.
Hotel is set in lovely gardens with an outside bar and comfy chairs to relax in outside the front, you are right on the waters front so you have a nice view.
There was no drinks menu and prices, but from the bill we got at the end it was pretty expensive at about 10euro per drink (Gin & Tonic or Whisky&Coke)!
We ate in the restaurant the last night, its a really nice restaurant and a lovely menu, we were disappointed that we weren't allowed to sit outside but its a nice airy modern restaurant, we had the set menu, 4 courses of tasty, good quality food for 34 euro per person which was good!
Man on reception was helpfull and friendly, and so was the barman/waiter!
All in all a good experience.

hotel was very clean, and comfortable, close to water bus stop st nichol but good 10 min walk to nearest shopsand airport water bus and main water bus routes. we found the staff very unhelpful when asking for anything for example tea and coffee it was as it was an effort for them to give me a kettle to take to my room then to find out the milk in cartons was 2 months out of date, when we complained they just shrugged their shoulders at us and we were given more out of date milk. overall standard and cleanliness was very good but it would of been nice to have had more friendlier staff.

A boat station is conveniently located across the street from the hotel. Not being use to traveling by boat I was a little intimidated, but quickly got over this fear and you can see all of Venice using this means of transportation. I had a 36 hour boat pass and my travel was unlimited.

I have recently stayed at this hotel and I found it excellent from all points of view. First and foremost its location: peaceful and yet extremely convenient (near two vaporetto stops), but far enough from the hustle and bustle of the Venice crowds. Secondly, the staff: all extremely helpful and charming; I have never received so many good pieces of information about travelling and free time in Venice. Thirdly, the rooms: extremely clean and very spacious, especially considering this is Venice. Fourthly, breakfast: great choice, great coffee, great cheese and great cakes! Thank you so much for a great stay.

My surprise trip to Venice was sadly spoiled by the lack of service one would expect at a 4* hotel. Being there out of season only the main building of the hotel was open. Room sizes varied; ours was quite small though adequate with an en-suite and a balcony with a lovely view towards Venice proper. Despite the car ferry chugging its way back and forth across the lagoon and the half-hourly vaporetto service from the dock a short distance from the hotel, it was pleasantly quiet and peaceful especially after the hustle and bustle of Venice during Carnivale.

Although the reception staff were very helpful, the waitresses were the opposite. While the menu choice for breakfast was adequate, staff had to be prompted to replenish supplies despite the fact that it got busier over the period we were there. Asking for anything more than one pot of tea or coffee was met with exasperation as if it were too much trouble. That said, dinner on our first night was good if somewhat pricy - the wine is very expensive.

Room service was pretty non-existent and the bar didn't ever seem to be open (a fellow guest told us that cocktails were definitely off the menu!); although not normally provided in-room tea & coffee is available but you have to ask for it (again the request was met with sighs of exasperation). Clean cups were only provided once so we had to wash them ourselves. Again supplies weren't replenished so I ended up taking teabags, coffee and sugar myself from the pantry when nobody was around to help one evening after returning from Venice. In contrast, bathroom supplies were so we had to use a new tablet of soap and open new shower creme every day - what a waste! Sheets and towels didn't appear to have been changed during our 4-night stay either. I didn't find the bed very comfortable but others in my party did so each to their own.

If you can live with all this, then you'll enjoy your time in Venice if staying at Villa Mabapa. Take advantage of the free taxi service the hotel offers to Murano (then on to Venice) but steel yourself for the big sell after the short glass-blowing exhibition - and have a healthy bank balance if you do decide to buy!! Otherwise buying a pass for the vaporetto is a very good idea - a 3-day pass costs €33 and is very good value since it can also be used on the buses, though not on the airport water-bus service (€13 each way).

We booked the hotel as we thought a 4* would be a good choice. Upon arrival it seemed we made a bad choice. Only 1 person of the staff was helpfull, all the others were not interested in the hotel guests. They don't know anything about the word 'service'. Our room was supposed to be a 'deluxe room', situated in the building behind the main building of the hotel.I have never had that type of room in my whole life ! Very disappointing if you pay 230 euro for 1 night! Breakfast was okay, but don't ask to have a table outside, as the staff is not helpfull at all, and orders you to sit inside, although it was a nice and sunny morning . Restaurant and bar staff is not trained for the job they have to do and they look like they are fed up with tourists. The location is rather good if you want to go to the beach, 3 blocks away, but beware, they charge you 18 euro for 1 sunbed. And Italy has nicer beaches than the one we visited. Conclusion : there are better hotels in and around Venice for that price.

The rooms were a little out dated. The bathroom was tiny and uncomfortable. Bath towels were thin. While taking a shower a pulled a string that was hanging from the ceiling thinking it would start a fan or something. This apparently sent an alarm signal to the from desk whom decided to call and scald my husband on the phone for my mistake. This summed up the service at the hotel.

The beds were suppose to be king size. We were given a room with two twin beds put together with two twin size comforters. It was very uncomfortable and felt cheap. Housekeeping walked in on us in bed one morning and she didn't realize we were still in bed whilst she continued to empty the trash etc... They never changed the sheets - we were there four nights.

On a positive note, the breakfast was good and so was the location. I would recommend this hotel if you are not looking for luxury but just a decent place to sleep.
