“great location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 July 2013

As part of a Collette family tour we spent 2 nights @ this hotel. The accomadations were great. The best part was that it's located in Lido a short water taxi to Venice. The restaurants in Lido are far superior to the restaurants in Venice and at 1/2 the price.the staff is very friendly, and the hotel is located just a 5-10 walk to a beautiful beach. I would definetly recomend a stay here.

After enduring a water taxi ride from Venice, and a short 10 minute walk to the hotel i was met by what i can only describe as a photo from baroque France. The exterior reeked of the early french period with its ornamental protrusions.Inside it seemed the same old but smart.Reception was small but caters for the throng of people that attend here. The lift is old and tired but gets you to your floor.I found the rooms to be quite old fashioned, with the floor actually at a slope to the building. The bathroom was again showing its age ,and the basics were to be had.The bed was large compared to the size of the room but did not have any luxury facilities. The dining room could cater for a small crowd and the breakfast was basic to say the least. The only downside was that as the flooring was wood it became noisy when people walked along the corridor.Any noise drifted.Nearby the hotel is the main street, bordered with a good variety of eating houses. The prices of the food varied according to the nationality and dish being ordered. Some prices for similar food varied within shops close to each other. Not far was the main beach for the island. It has a long beachfront and a gentle slope for swimming. On beachfront is a hall and eating facility.

Room Tip: Order room facing sea.

We stayed here as we needed to be in Lido to be close to my nephew. I was slightly unsure about both Lido and the hotel but I would definitely stay in Lido at the Grande Albergo if I ever visit Venice again. Travelling to Lido from the airport by the lagoon water bus was a great start to the holiday and the trip across to Venice every morning was a lovely start to the day and so easy. Lido is a welcome, peaceful break from the bustle of Venice but has it's own character. The beach is lovely and there are some good restaurants that are cheaper than in Venice. We liked the hotel. It was lovely to sit on the terrace in the evening. Breakfast was good with lots of choice and the service was good. We had a small room but it was comfortable and cool at the end of a long day. we didn't go to Venice to spend a lot of time in the room! Overall a really nice place to stay to enjoy Venice.

Stayed two nights at this beautiful hotel with my wife... got a wonderful surprise when we arrived as the hotel had upgraded us to a junior suite! The rooms have a very 1800's look, but are very comfortable complete with necessary amenities... very friendly staff... gave us excellent recommendations on places to visit in Venice and the adjoining islands of Murano and Burano... breakfast was simple but good... the hotel is a short walking distance from the pier, and the beach is walking distance too! Overall a very comfortable stay

We booked this hotel some time before our trip as it was a good price, non-refundable. As the time got nearer we were a bit concerned by some of the reviews. As soon as we arrived however, we were pleased. The hotel has a lovely exterior and is much photographed by passers-by. The interior is nicer than indicated by some reviewers - it is an old building after all - reminiscent of old films. Our room was a standard one and was lovely. It had everything we needed: comfortable beds, good shower and even a safe - no complaints. Breakfast was served in a lovely sunny orangery at the back of the hotel and there was a hot option of scrambled eggs and bacon which was very enjoyable - it's lovely when you don't have to cook it yourself! The only comment I would make is that because the hotel is old the noise transfers easily when people walk along corridors. We were disturbed a couple of times by people coming in late, but it was not a big problem. The hotel is ideally situated on the 'strip' that runs from the water bus stop - to the beach - 5-10 mins in either direction. There are lots of shops and restaurants along the strip. We ate in a couple of the restaurants across the road from the hotel and the food was good - watch out for the service charge or cover charge - they always catch you out with one of them. Of particular note was an Asian restaurant which was on the same side as the hotel just a few yards down the road in the direction of the beach (can't remember the name) - we had an absolutely fabulous meal there - so fresh and tasty - it was delicious. On the final evening we ate in the hotel restaurant and the food was lovely and the bill cheaper than in some of the local restaurants (10% discount for hotel guests) - so that is recommended too. We spent an afternoon in the spa and wouldn't recommend that - expensive and tiny - the 'quiet' area is situated between the showers and the jacuzzi with no walls to deaden the noise - waste of space. Would happily go to this hotel again.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay as we felt we were back in a bygone age. The location was excellent near to the lido beach and 250 metres from a main vaporetti stop, so you can be in the centre of St Marks Square in 20 minutes. We have stayed in the centre of Venice before (just behind St Marks), on a previous visit, however we much preferred this hotel for location, facilities and general feel. The air conditioning throughout the hotel worked perfectly which was a necessity as the temperature outside was over 35 degrees. We thought the hotel was far superior to many 4 star hotels in the Venice area and at a reasonable price. The breakfast was lovely with plenty of variety. All the staff were very helpful and friendly, and the rooms very clean. Perhaps free wifi should be considered by the management. We will definitely stay in this hotel again on our next visit to Venice.

i spontaneously checked in at this great hotel because i loved the look from the outside. the rooms were clean, large and very well equipped. i enjoyed the view, its very central and from lido you can reach the entire city of venice within 15minutes by vaportetto®

the breakfast was very delicious - check out the huge selection of juices. left aside they brew very good coffee.

Room Tip: upper levels provide best view. check room 309
