I had booked three rooms a year or so ago direct with the hotel to allow us to spend four nights in venice after a cruise. No sense going all that way without seeing the sights. I got a great deal however when we arrived the staff commented that the going rate was much higher than I had been given. Two of the rooms were great. The one alocated to my wife and I was really, really small with brocade on the walls which made it seem even smaller. The hotel was fully booked and the man on duty made a bit of a joke along the lines of you get what you paid for. HOWEVER the next day we were moved into a lovely room with Balcony which certainly saved the review. The hotel is just what we were led to expect. delightfully old world caught in a time warp with some lovely features. Perfect location as well the lido is so much quieter than venice and cheaper to eat out. I hate crowds so my time in Venice itself was a trial but great to see the sights. We were a
proached by a man in the street on Sunday and offered a free private boat trip to the island of Murano to watch glass blowers at work and see the work. No obligation to buy and a great trip through the back canals of venice before crossing the lagoon. We just got the public water bus back. This hotel is not luxurious but then again the price reflects its worth and its worth it.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- The hotel Rigel, built in the 60's, is situated on one of the most important islands of Venice. Its importance and uniqueness are due to being the only one facing the Adriatic Sea on one side and on the other the basin of St. Mark's, just before the historical Square of St.Mark's, centre of the ancient Republic of Venice. Another characteristic that makes it unique, compared to all other islands of the Lagoon, is the possibility to reach it by car, avoiding problems and costs of car-parking either in Mestre (mainland) or at the Tronchetto (car-park). The hotel has 42 rooms on three floors connected by lift. The rooms nearly all have classical-style furnishings, are luminous, some with a small balcony and all with bathroom, shower, air conditioning, telephone with direct outside line, satellite TV, and a wireless internet connection. There is an internet point in the Hall. The Buffet breakfast is open from 7,00 to 10,00 a.M. In the breakfast room on the ground floor, while the restaurant is only open for organised groups.
