Service was good and friendly. If we needed help we got it right away.

Room was quite small but can accommodate two people comfortably. Bathroom was clean and there were a bathtub with shower and it was quite big despite that the hotel is in Europe.

Room was cleaned every day, sheets were changed every other day. Detergent they used to clean the room smelled bad but we could survive of that.

Location was excellent. Hotel is situated on the main street of Lido Island and there was only a minute walk from the Vaporetto (water bus) station.

We did not try the breakfast. Price variated from 10 euros (continental) to 15 euros (buffet).

We booked this hotel based on the Trip Advisor reviews & it was a big mistake. We visited Venice in May 2011 & thanks to them we don’t have very good memories of this city.
Helvetia treats guests like they are stupid. Clearly they thought that if we had booked an economy room, they could treat us like dirt.
We arrived at about 11pm & as we approached the room we could hear several loud, drunk, male, voices coming from the room opposite ours. This went on for a few more hours. Then we tried to use the bathroom & found the sink plug was stuck, another a minor irritation which we let go.
Next we tried the air conditioning since it was a warm night & that didn’t work either. The receptionist didn’t know why it wasn’t working initially but called us back to tell us that they had turned off the mains as govt regulations stipulate no AC usage for an ‘unspecified’ period. What a lie! We were in Rome prior to Venice & already knew that the heating was not allowed during spring but cooling could be used. Which govt will specify a ban on cooling during spring/summer?? It looked like this hotel just wanted to save on their electricity bills so they conveniently blame it on the govt. Instead we were told to open the window & leave it open all night. Never mind the fact that the window had no metal bars, a see-through curtain, looked out onto a common balcony & had a roller shutter (clearly for security reasons) but the hotel expected us to leave it open all night. In the end we just shut the window as our security was more important to us.
Not only was the room stifling, it smelt of cheap whisky. We thought a previous guest had probably spilt some on the carpet but little did we know it was the cheap room freshener.
After a bit of thinking, we decided to ask for another room. We were told there wasn’t anything available in the same price bracket (offcourse) but a bigger room was available for 20 Euros extra per night. We agreed to pay it despite none of the above being our fault. However, after about 15 mins the receptionist called us back to tell us that it was 40 Euros extra per night. His argument was that he made a mistake & that they would have to pay housekeeping twice if they moved us. This was a pretty big ‘mistake’ I’d say! He rudely informed us that if we had a problem with this, we would have to speak to the owner. So basically they just didn’t want to give us another room & we were left with no other option but to stay in the same room for the night. He mentioned he would speak to the manager about moving us in the morning but offcourse, nothing was done about it the next day. We considered moving to another hotel for the second night but judging from this behaviour they were unlikely to refund any money.
Early next morning we were woken by loud voices & banging. It was the housekeeping staff; they go about their work quite noisily & don’t really care if they disturb guests.
Later we put a ‘do not disturb’ sign on our door & left the room as we did not want any housekeeping. However, when we returned, the room was cleaned & reeked of that overpowering room freshener, we felt like throwing up! More importantly they completely ignored the ‘do not disturb’ sign.
During our holiday we travelled through Spain, Italy & France; stayed in over a dozen hotels & had no problems what so ever but this was the most appalling one. We’re quite an easy going couple & simply hate making a big fuss over things but we felt so degraded by this treatment that we had to share it here so Helvetia doesn’t spoil anyone else’s Venetian holiday. In hindsight, I would rather have spent the extra dollars & stayed in main Venice.

Do Not Dusturb sign is at clients' disposition not to be disturbed when inside the room, but not to prohibit the maids from entering the room when you are outside.
Our hotel has a long reputation for paying attention to detail and clientele, we are loved by many clients who return every year, and we are fully aware that there are some who dont like us. We are sorry for that, on the other hand it is natural that you cannot be loved by everyone.
Best regards

We just returned from a one night stay at this hotel, prior to boarding a cruise from Venice. The Lido is a beautiful town, easy to get to by water taxi, and the hotel is less than a block from the stop. The staff was friendly, the room was clean and the bed comfortable. We were very happy with our choice of hotel and location.

I have just returned from a weekend break. Having never been to Venice before I didn't know what to expect. I had single occupancy of a double room, everything worked and the showers were brilliant and the room and bathroom were spotless. Spale on Reception was very informative and his English excellent. I travelled with a group there were 12 of us in total. On the Saturday morning Spale organised for us to have our breakfast in the garden so we could all sit together, the weather was good so it was perfect. The breakfast was lovely you could have as much as you wanted - but there's only so much a person can eat! My friend Pauline who organised the trip
couldn't have picked a better location for the water buses. It took 10 mins to St. Marcs Square - there are some really nice islands to visit. The hotel recommended places to eat nearby, which were all good. Don't hesitate to use this hotel.

Room Tip: If you want a large room ask when booking

This is a nice hotel which enjoys a fantastic position only a minutes from the water bus stop in Lido Venezia. The hotel was very clean and the check-in process wasquick and easy.
We paid for a superior room which the website states has a shower and bathtub and larger beds. The 1st room we were given had a bathroom (the size of a large cupboard) with only a shower. I went to reception to query the room we were provided and we were quickly moved to a larger room with a large bed and a bath and shower. The hotel website advertises a private beach. However, when I enquiried how to get there I was advised that it wasnt open yet !! There is no mention of it being closed on the website. Luckily there is a public beach which we were able to use. We arrived on a Monday and on the Tuesday we asked reception if we could leave our laptop in the safe. A notice in the hotel advised not to leave valuables in the room and to give to reception for safekeeping. The lady on reception gladly took the item and advised she would keep it safe. However, on the the next day when we asked them to look after it again we were advised by a different receptionist to leave it in our room as 'this was safer than behind the reception'. On Wednesday (the day before we were leaving) we requested our key from reception and was advised that they had removed our travel iron from our room WITHOUT PERMISSION as it was against Italian law to keep them in hotel bedrooms !!! They refused to return the iron until our check-out. There was no signs telling us irons are not allowed and the iron was in the same place on Tuesday when the room was cleaned and was not removed. It is of concern that staff are removing guests items from their rooms without permission.
We loved our stay on the Lido but feel the hotel should provide what they advertise on the website and should be consistent with their rules and regulations.

Dear client,
Thank you for exaustive comment on your stay, it is very precious to us who work with many clients everyday to know how the cliens feel about us and our hotel. We suppose you did not notice that your room has had a folder with guest information that it is absolutely prohibited to iron and/or cook, and to use any kind of electric devices, in hotel rooms. The maidens are legally authorised, when they find similar objects in the rooms, to immediately remove and deposit them at the reception, and the guest can obtain them back at his check out.
Best regards, Helvetia Management

12 of us stayed at the Hotel Helvetia, on the Lido, the best place to be in Venice. It's more spacious and calmer, and you get a fantastic view of the whole of Venice from the waterfront. When the weather is fine, breakfast is served outside in the pretty vine-covered courtyard. But the breakfast room itself is also very nice, with crisp table-cloths, a good selection of food, and attentive staff. The hotel is a few steps from the vaporetto stop, then a 10 minute, spectacular trip across the lagoon. The staff, especially Spale, are wonderful and helpful. We were there 3 nights, and each night they recommended a different restaurant for all of us to fit in comfortably, and booked a large table for us.Not one complaint, from 12 people, says it all!! The APT travel ticket includes the buses on the Island, and you can use it to catch the number 11 bus, which connects with ferries, from outside the Hotel, to Chioggia.

We had a great stay at this little hotel. We really liked staying on the Lido - it was so romantic getting the waterbus over to San Marco. It's only about 10 to 15 mins and it's such a lovely trip, particularly as the sun sets. The hotel was about two minutes stroll from the Lido Waterbus jetty. Really easy!! The hotel itself was lovely - really Italian, really friendly. We look forward to our return. Molto bene!!
Ps there is a restaurant called the Isola d'oro near the waterbus stop, we ate here twice - superb cooking, and really friendly service!!
