“Lovely hotel, great views”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 May 2011

Hotel Villa Laguna is a very easy and comfortable hotel with excellent service and a very relaxed ambience. The setting is right on the water and there are excellent views from the bedrooms and the lovely little garden (which is an excellent spot to sit in about 5pm and relax after a hard days sight seeing). The rooms are a good size and have a nice mix of modern and traditional features.

The water buses are a one minute stroll from the hotel but there are no noise issues and the buses run very regularly and are a real part of the fun on a trip to Venice. We had been to Venice before and this time stayed away from St. Marks and Rialto and spent a lot of time in the Dorsoduro area which is full of lovely little streets and squares and we found many lovely restaurants and bars.

The food, wine and service was universally excellent and I would recommend sticking with house wines as they are great value and were always very quaffable. Try a Spritz as a delicious mid-afternoon or pre-dinner drink (its the orange coloured drink and you'll see lots of Italians drinking it).

In summary Villa Laguna is an excellent hotel with good staff and a top location. If you don't mind the extra 10-15 minutes it takes on the vaporetto to get to the main parts of Venice then the Lido is a great base to explore beautiful and fun Venice.

Room Tip: we were in Room 213 and it was first class.

My boyfiriend and i have just returned from our trip to Venice. The Villa Laguna was a fantastic hotel, the location was perfect, right next to the waterboat stop. The staff were very friendly and happy to help, if needed. We had a room overlooking the lagoon, the views were out of this world, as we were on the ground floor we also had a little garden with table and chairs, which we weren't expecting. The rooms were a good size and very comfortable. Also there was a jacuzzi bath, which was a nice suprise.
We were there for 4 nights, we bought a 72 hour pass for the boats and buses, whch we used alot, great value. The no. 1 vaporetti took us from Lido, over the Venice, it also went right up the Grand canal, that was an amazing trip in itself. Would love to go back to Venice in the future and would most certainly stay at the Villa Laguna.

Our room overlooked the lagoon with views toward Venice. There were 2 balconies to sit on overlooking the water to watch the boats. I loved hearing the water. The attention to detail was exceptional and our room was luxuriously appointed. The internet speed was fast. We'd spend a crowded day in Venice, then come back to a quieter place and we were able to relax. The dining room had a wonderful view of the lagoon and the food was excellent. We ate dinner there each evening and the staff learned our names and greeted us so we felt like we had personal attention. The food was fresh and delicious. We highly recommend dining here. Breakfast was much more than just croissants and coffee, which was hard to find. The patio eating area looked very inviting and also overlooked the water but it was too cool for our time of year. Carlos, at the front desk, was especially helpful giving us a map to point out ferry stops and points of interest. The ferry transport was only a 1.5 block walk. Staying at this hotel was half the fun of experiencing Venice!

The great thing about Lido is how close it is to the best of Venice plus access to the beach and seaside flavor all Venetians adore and VILLA LAGUNA is perfectly located to provide this fully rounded experience of 'la Venezia bella' plus you have excellent service, quiet, lovely rooms and the subtle, attentive service of the staff.

Lovely hotel in perfect location for exploring Venice. Lido is a great place to relax at the end of a hectic day, or to just spend a day riding bicycles or visiting the beach area. Proximity to boat transportation is excellent - it was easy to walk to the hotel even with large suitcases. Fabio welcomed us to Villa Laguna and did an excellent job of providing information on both the hotel and the local area. Our room was very clean, with a wonderful view of the lagoon. We look forward to staying here again, and will recommend it to our friends.

We stayed here 4 nights and were super impressed with this hotel, it is in a quiet location only a 10 minute boat ride from St Mark's Square and allows easy access to Burano and Murano islands which make nice day trips. The Lido neighborhood is very upscale and has a couple of excellent resturants. It is also close to a huge beach area. The breakfast buffett is the best in Italy and the view across the water to venice is a great way to start the day.The hotel staff is very friendly and allways willing to help.

Room Tip: ask for water view rooms

Hotel is ideally located near to the water bus stops and the main street in Lido. The reception staff were very welcoming and helpful. We had an upgraded room which we paid extra for and this gave us a small balcony with nice views over to St Marks Square. The bedroom was large, clean and the room also had a seperate sitting area with 2 sofas and tv. The room was lacking Tea/Coffee making facilities which any 4 star hotel should have these days.
Breakfast was included however this wasn't great, we arrived for breakfast on both mornings around 0930 and there wasn't much left of anything. Very little fruit, no choice of yoguts and no choice of bread. Not good if it says breakfast is served until 1030 you would expect the food to be replenshed. The service in the breakfast room wasn't good either we had to set our own table by getting plates/cups etc from the counters as the tables hadn't been cleared and set up again from people before us. We weren't appraoched by the waiter to see if we wanted tea/coffee I had to go and ask him.
Overall the hotel is of good standard and if I were to ever come to Venice again I would definitely stay here for the location rather than a hotel actually on Venice.
I like reviews that tell me something helpful, so : -
Go to breakfast early if you want a choice of fruit / bread etc
Take a travel kettle if you want a hot drink in your room
Go to the supermarket on the main street in Lido to buy your cold drinks and snacks for the day, a large bottle of iced tea was 0.69 cents rather than 2 euros for a small bottle at the kiosks.
Take lots of money Venice is very expensive!
