“Lovely Hotel”
Reviewed 21 June 2014

Stayed at this hotel for two nights. The hotel is located on the Lido, away from the crowds of Venice. The hotel is quite old but retains a lot of its original charms. Although a little dated the rooms were large and clean.

The hotel has a lovely restaurant with a large outdoor area with great views of Venice.

Would recommend this hotel for anyone wanting to escape the hustle and bustle of Venice in the evenings. However, it is only a short water bus ride to the Main Square.

We also found the front desk staff at this hotel extremely helpful and friendly.

Having read numerous good reviews, the Villa Laguna did not disappoint. We wanted to visit Venice but not stay in the busy tourist areas so we choose to stay on the Lido, a 10 minute vaporetto ride from St Mark's Square. We arrived from Treviso airport by ATVO coach into the bus station - Piazza Le Roma and bought a weekly pass for the water taxis which works out much cheaper than paying for each separate journey. You have to touch in at the start of your journey, a bit like the Underground's Oyster card. Take the line 5.1 or 6 to Lido and the hotel is just a couple of minutes walk away - so simple.

The hotel is decorated very much in the venetian style so if you are looking for a contemporary feel, this is not for you. One of the reception staff, Fjorda made us feel very welcome on arrival and during our 4 night stay. The hotel has 19 rooms and we had a suite overlooking the lagoon with views across the water to Venice. Stunning, well worth paying the extra as the view was so interesting - plenty to see. The suite consisted of a sitting area, with sofa bed, TV and table and chairs, a big walk in wardrobe, safe, small kitchen area (extra charge), double bedroom with a firm mattress and good sized bathroom. The room was very clean as were the public areas.

The breakfast buffet was included in the room rate and the choice was excellent. The dining room overlooks the lagoon so was one of the most stunning views you could wish for. During the warmer months, breakfast could be eaten outside. Evening meals are also available and the food was excellent. There's a nice seating area with a bar serving drinks overlooking the water. However, there are several restaurants in the nearby main street - Gran Viale Santa Maria Elizabetta as well as a convenience store, shops and several places to buy delicious ice cream. A ten minute walk along this road to the other side of the Lido takes you to the public beach. Buses operate along the lido to various points and are free with a travel pass.

The hotel also offers its guests a free water taxi to Murano to visit a glass factory. We thought we would be pressurised to buy something but this was not the case. There are plenty of less expensive showrooms in Murano to choose from if need be.

The hotel has a sister hotel in a less touristy area of Venice called Palazzo Contarini Della Porta Di Ferro which can be used for weddings and special occasions.

Room Tip: Rooms with lagoon rooms are more expensive but well worth it. Rooms overlooking the road can suffer...

Our room had windows opening towards Venice city and we sat that evening enjoying a stunning view as the sun set, we then woke the next morning to the sound of the water lapping under our windows.

The hotel itself is placed right next to the ferry and a short walk from restaurants and a little further the beach. Service was friendly and the atmosphere very relaxed.

I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to be near Venice rather than in it.

We had a lovely few days at this brilliant hotel celebrating being married for 20 yrs. The hotel is absolutely beautiful, with great location, quaint interior and a nice breakfast. We had both lunch and dinner at the restaurant and the food was delicious. Taking the boat back and forward to Venice was a nice break for tired feet and Lido had both nice restaurants and a lovely beach to offer. We really loved the stay!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony facing the lagoon and you might get lucky!

This hotel is literally perfectly situated for a visit to Venice! It is right next to the water bus stop, and only a ten minute ride on the waterbus (vaporetto) into the centre of Venice. It is so lovely to be able to leave the bustle of Venice and head back to the peace and quiet of this pretty and quaint hotel. The views are so gorgeous, it is definitely worth paying extra for the lagoon view. The hotel itself was spotlessly clean, and our room was huge, clean, and beautiful- I couldn't have wished for more (we did have to change rooms after our first night because we wanted one with a shower, but this was soon sorted out). The staff are reasonably helpful although I didn't find any of them very friendly, to be honest. The breakfasts were average - an adequate selection, with a variety of fresh croissants, about 3-4 different cereals, and some fruit (some fresh, some tinned or stewed). If you are considering staying on the Lido instead of in main Venice (which I would recommend) then this is the only hotel worth considering. You won't be disappointed!

This hotel is number 1 in Tripadvisor with good reason. It is perfectly situated in the Lido on the lagoon with views across to the main island. We took the ferry from the airport to the hotel & it is a 1 minute walk to the hotel! Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Breakfast was good - with a choice of Continental - cheese, ham, juices, breads & croissants, tea or coffee. Also on offer scrambled eggs with pieces of bacon, sausages , toast and even Prosecco for an early Bucks Fizz! Our room was spotless & enormous with a veranda beside the lagoon. We stayed 3 nights and would love to have stayed longer. It is 10 mins by water bus across the lagoon to St Marks Square & the ferries run approx every 10 mins so it couldn't be handier! The hotel also has a very good restaurant for the evening meal.

Room Tip: We stayed in the garden suite which had its own private veranda beside the lagoon with an uninterrup...

A bit disappointing. Stayed in early march. Restaurant was shut. Rooms with view of bay/St Marks cost €50 extra. Close to water bus but takes good 20 mins to reach St Marks square stop. In hindsight, for a short stay, would probably have gone for hotel in Venice.
