This hotel is fine, but not 4* by my standards.

The reception area is nice and all the reception staff were very friendly and helpful.

The rooms are average - a bit tired and dim, but neat and clean. The bathroom in my room, however, was really cute - it had obviously been renovated and was very new, modern and bright . A shame that the rest of the room hadn't been renewed also.

My main issue with this place is that there was no room service, so I arrived late and couldn't order anything to eat. There is a list entitled "cafe" - but they only sell alcoholic drinks (not even tea or coffee, and there are no facilities in the room).

The breakfast was OK - a standard continental buffet, nothing very exciting. A pity they didn't use the expresso machine for the coffee!

The services are there, but they're not very good:
there is a TV, but you only get 2 Italian stations or otherwise you can pay for movies
there is a minibar, but no snacks and some of the spirit bottles were already open
there are internet and laundry, but quite expensive.

Unless you need to be on the Lido, I'd advise finding something more central.

The Russo Palace is a lovely hotel situated on a quiet island in the Venetian Lagoon. It's a short hop to Venice on the Vaporetto and the peace and quiet is well worth the journey.

We stayed for 2 nights.

The first night we were allocated room 1 on the ground floor. The room is big and comfortable, but with no view of any kind. The room smelt rather badly of raw sewage - the only room in the hotel to do so. We asked if we could change rooms because of the smell and were told we could do so if we paid an extra 90 Euros per night. We couldn't afford this so we asked for some air freshener to make the smell more bearable. When we went to bed that night it was very cold so we turned on the heating. What a noise!!!! There was a problem with the heater in the room which made it sound like a motor boat. We got no sleep during the first night. The heating could not be turned off and woke us every hour when it turned on. By morning we were very tired and were not looking forward to tromping round Venice in such a state.
We asked the desk clerk if there was any possibility of changing rooms as we were not willing to use that room again. We were considering moving hotel if nothing could be done and applying for a refund from the Russo. The desk clerk was very nice and agreed to move us to another room without having to pay extra as compensation. He seemed surprised that the room smelt and that the heating was noisy, but I suspect they knew this and used the room for cheap travellers, maybe to charge extra money for moving?
The room we used on the second night was small, but had a view of the lagoon and didn't smell. The heater worked properly, too.
The buffet breakfast is very basic, but did seem to fill us until lunchtime. Don't expect too much.
We ordered 2 items at one time from room service to save on room service charges, but were charged 5 euros per item anyway. I do believe we were overcharged, but we were too tired to argue by that time.
All in all we had a lovely stay in Venice, but next time we go we will use another hotel

My husband and I stayed in the Russo Palace Hotel for 3 nights during our honeymoon trip in Europe. It was a great stay. We chose a deluxe room with a seaview and a balcony. The hotel staff were very nice and friendly and willing to accomodate all your requests. I was nice to stay away from the tourist area and go back to this quiet Lido island at the end of the day. We walked by the seashore everytime we went to the waterbus station and it was so relaxed and enjoyable. I will definitely stay in this hotel again if I visit Venice again.

Lovely family holiday (ages from 17 to 89) in Venice made possible by welcoming and helpful staff. Excellent services and amenities. Very clean. Breakfast every day (plenty of choice) overlooking the lagoon with view of St. Marks.
Dine at Trattoria la Battigia (hotel will tell you where it is) and try the small fish restaurant round the corner next to the canal

Me and my partner stayed at Russo Palace on a short break to venice. We found the whole experience wonderful, although away from main venice it was relaxing and nice to retire to the lido island which also has its own bars, shops and in the summer months a lovely beach. There are frequent water buses running almost 24 hrs. The hotel being a 10 minuite walk was nice to as it has romantic views over main venice. The breakfast was a lovely continental buffet which offers something for even the most fussy eaters.
To sum it up i would deffinatly recomend a stay here.
Miss D Board

Ps i also found the book Insideout on venice truely
valuable as it has maps of venice and water bus routes.
