I sometimes wonder whether J.P.Sartre visited the main island of Venice just before penning his most famous line:"L'enfer, c'est les autres" (Hell is other people). If you share his sentiments after a day being buffetted, delayed and obstructed in the world's most beautiful city by the noisy hordes of raised umbrella-led tourists from the four corners of the planet Earth, then escape to the Lido after the day's hectic sight-seeing. Getting there by fast vaporetto over the open lagoon is both quick and easy, and a short, level walk of 5-7 minutes brings you to the Villa Casanova: a haven of peace and quiet, grass and trees. It's like another world here and the beaches of the Adriatic are just a few hundred yards away.
We paid £116 a night for a large "superior" room with huge four-poster bed (number 5), significantly less than the cost of comparable accommodation on the main island. This included breakfast and the services of Alessandro, the tireless, perfect host and master of a proper espresso machine with which he will brew you the perfect cup of coffee.Guests are invited to use this machine for hot water at any time and the thoughtful provision of free English Blend teabags enabled us to brew the best cup of tea we have ever enjoyed while on holiday abroad.

Room Tip: If you're a light sleeper, avoid the rooms on either side of the front door.

We had a wonderful 2 days at Casanova. We received a very warm welcome from Alessandro and he made us feel at home instantly. We also enjoyed the garden, where it was quiet, there was also wifi, so my husband could study and work there which was very pleasant.
We enjoyed having the bikes, so it was easy to move around the island.

The room was fine, very clean, but some of the furniture was a bit tired, but oh well, for this price we didn't mind and you are so close to Venice... and it's nice and peaceful on the Lido.

Alessandro's suggestions were very useful and we did loads in 2 days; visited the airshow on Lido airport, spent a few hours on the beach at Paradise Club, went to a classical concert in a church in Venice (not super high quality but in the category 'nice'), took a gondola (very touristy but hey, it was our wedding anniversary and we had a good laugh) and obviously strolled through Venice and had nice dinners.

I personally really enjoyed - and this is MY tip - getting off the boat at Giardini and wondering around this area of Venice.... it's far more 'real' than the inner city of Venice and less touristy. I enjoyed getting lost and just wondering here. Would have loved to have had more time there...

It's a shame we didn't have more time to see the Biennale, but there are weird and wonderful statues all around Venice. Very enjoyable.

This is a well run hotel on the lido. It is very convenient to the ferry to Venice, and far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the centre. The room we were allocated was smallish and a little tired, but acceptable. Breakfast was good and we enjoyed use of the free bicycles. Staff were friendly and more than helpful. Car parking was well organized.

We were the group of 4 persons and we stayed here for 4 nights. We were absolutly satisfied. The owner is very helpfull and kind - nothing was problem for him. Our accomodation was fine and the breakfast was amazing. We liked so much the garden around Villa where we could sit during the evenings. We liked also Lido - its nature, beaches and .... everything :-) Thanks a lot and I recommend.

Room Tip: We had a room in ground floor for 4 persons and it was fine.

Stay in Lido! Just a ten minute water bus away from Venice, you can have trees, greenery, quiet and an affordable place to stay at Villa Casanova. We heeded some advice of another family when visiting Venice this summer and chose to stay in Lido rather than in Venice. Villa Casanova turned out to be a great find. It is about 4-5 blocks from the water bus station and down a quiet street -with easy access to the beach. Our family enjoyed the well appointed room, marvelous breakfast buffet, peaceful garden and very helpful staff during our four night stay. If you are interested in coming to Venice and want to stay close to the city but also with a chance to visit a great beach (and find a bit of affordable luxury in between) - seek out Villa Casanova.

Room Tip: We stayed on the downstairs floor and did were not bothered by outside or hallway noise. The room was perfect for a family of four - a bit cozy but suited our needs.
