“A great start to our holiday”
Reviewed 15 August 2014

We stayed at Villa Casanova for three nights at the start of our holiday in Italy. We had a triple room, on the top floor, so it had a sloping ceiling, with lovely exposed beams. However the room was rather small for three adults, I think it should be advertised as a room for 2 adults and one small child, as the third bed was too small for an adult, The bathroom was also quite small.
Breakfast was excellent, with a good choice of items, including pastries, meats, cheeses, fresh fruit, and tomatoes, and made to order coffee. Unfortunately it was raining on two of the mornings so we weren't able to make use of the outside tables.
The location is perfect, it was wonderful to get a boat from the airport straight to the Lido, and Villa Casanova was only a short walk away. It was also near several restaurants, and the beach was about 10/15 minutes away. I liked the contrast between the main sections of Venice and the Lido, and would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Venice.

We stayed here for two night and wished we had more time, Alessandro and his staff were very welcoming and very helpful. We had a quadruple room, which was very comfortable, clean and well kept. The breakfast was delicious were freshly made pies and cakes. The Villa is a short walk from the water bus and the main street. Lido is a relaxing place to stay for families, you can do the beach or rent bikes and enjoy the island. Easy access to Venice by boat.

Room Tip: Great place for a family vacation

Usually I’m a generous reviewer on TripAdvisor and try to look positively at the hotels I stay at, giving them 4 or 5 points. But what I don’t like is wrong information and when my requests made while booking are not taken any notice of.
One of the main reasons why I booked a room at the Villa Casanova was the availability of a triple suitable for 3 adults (this room was advertised on Booking). What we actually got was a dark double with an extra roll-away having a mattress shorter than normal and placed just in front of the a/c unit. We thought: “OK, they are a small B&B, perhaps, in reality they just don’t have rooms for three at all and offer us the best they can” - and didn't make a fuss. Now that I've read on TripAdvisor comments that in fact the Villa Casanova has some bigger rooms including normal triples, I feel really angry because my booking was done 6 months in advance (!!!), and it’s not the room you expect to get booking half a year before your trip!
All right, we didn't know that. Anyway, we had to ask for more blankets, as in spite of our request to have 3 single beds, two beds were covered together with one blanket.
And then there was the safe which made me really disappointed. It was “promised” in the description of the room and physically existed. But it was not fixed to the wall of the wardrobe (take it and go!), wasn't digital... and even the key was missing... I suppose it’s better not to place such a safe at all rather than make the guests angry because they’ll have to go to the crowded Venice with all their money with them.
The carpets in the room looked a bit dusty and very tired – I’d recommend the owners throwing them away not to give problems to people with allergy.
In general, the look of the room under the roof was dark and not very inviting but – all right, it’s due to the special features of the historical building.
Having said about the negatives I’d comment on the positives:
+ The location is convenient, 5 minutes to vaporetti (ferry-boats) to Venice and Alilaguna boats to the airport, not far from the beaches, in a very quiet green street.
+ Breakfast is tasty.
+ In your room you have a fridge, the air-conditioning works properly and towels are abundant and changed regularly.
+ The staff is friendly.
+ From the outside the villa looks charming.
In general, I’d say the following: high rating of the Villa Casanova on TripAdvisor and Booking really surprises me and makes me feel that either we got their worst room or Lido doesn't have any good hotels and inns at all!
When it comes to money, - for Venice it’s not that expensive but I wouldn't call our room good value for money. It’s the case when I’d prefer to pay more and go to a hotel with more taste and comfort. After all, Venice calls for more luxury.

Thank you Alessandro for your help before we arrived, about the schedule for the boats and then your warm welcome, your great suggestions for restaurants and the fabulous coffee in the morning!

You were a great host and we wish you the best.

We really did enjoy our stay back in May with you and we were happy to know you.

Alessandro and his staff are lovely and very helpful. We had a room on the ground floor which was clean and well kept. The villa is in a quiet residential street just about 10 minutes walk from the water bus station and about 15 mins walk from the beach. The lido is a great place to get away from the crowds and the noise in Venice itself. And my God, was it crowded in Venice! Around Rialto Bridge, it was like being in a football crowd! I was glad to get back to the peaceful tranquility of the lido and Villa Casanova. Near to the vilan are lots of bars shops and restaurants , all much cheaper than in Venice.
The lido has a public beach which is very clean but the sunbeds cost 27 euros for the day although this does include two trips to the loo and the showers! Otherwise it costs 1 euro to use the loos! You do get hassled by guys selling sunglasses, beach towels and watches! There are three cafes and restaurants on the beach with a good choice of food and drinks. There is also a mobile van that sells ice creams and drinks.
If you are there for a week, it is well worth buying a weekly ticket for the vaporetto and get a map as it is a bit like the London underground only on water! Don't bother getting an organised trip to the islands- these are a waste of money. Just get the water bus to Merano and Burrano. Burrano is a lovely island and well worth a trip to see the brightly coloured fishermen's cottages.
Back to Villa Casanova- if you need anything just ask the staff- they will always try to help.
The breakfast, buffet style is good with a lovely seating area outside and limitless coffee!
For a bed and breakfast this is a fantastic place to stay!

Room Tip: Take a ground floor room- there is no lift to the upper floors so saves dragging your suitcases up!

We loved the Villa Casanova. Down a quiet side street on the Lido island, this B&B provides the perfect getaway. Their rooms are very nice, well kept, clean, and comfortable. The breakfasts are very tasty, and the staff is always friendly and helpful. They gave us good suggestions for meals, suggestions on how to get around the islands. The Villa Casanova is only 5 minutes from the vaporetto station, and about 10 minutes from the Lido beaches.

A wonderful bed and breakfast, I have nothing bad to say about the Villa Casanova. Only a three minute walk from the vaporetto station, the staff is unbelievably helpful and take great pride in their customer service. The breakfast every morning is remarkably fresh and the wide variety of fresh made caffeinated beverages is something you look forward too every morning waking up.
