“Not happy”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 July 2013

I booked a double room for Byron Laguna inn for one night while visiting Venice. We arrived at Byron Laguna inn, but was sent to a different hotel (Byron Hotel) 300 meters down the road instead.

Unfortunately, our stay at the Byron Hotel was not a pleasant one. Upon checking-in, the concierge as reasonably friendly and polite until he told us that he had received two bookings from us for the same evening (somehow booked 9 days apart) This was not his fault as we booked our Hotel initially through Venere.com. but upon telling him that we had only made one booking he became quite rude and began to hurry us along to sign both of the documents for each room, without even listening to what it was that we had to say nor trying to rectify the situation whatsoever. All he seemed to care about at the time was the fact that he had received two orders and that was that. Not the appropriate service you are looking for from a Hotel concierge regardless of price nor star-rating.

After being treated like this all we really wanted to do was leave. It was upsetting and not at all accepted.

I guess the room was okay for the price we paid, but not for double the price which we ended up paying for the one room (since we according to the concierge had booked two rooms). Perhaps they should spend some money on paint for the walls and soap for the guests though.

It's a very average hotel... nothing special to mention... disappointing breakfast..all cold. Go for cristallo hotel in lido, better than this hotel in terms of location and everything.
The distance to vaporetti was quite a distance to walk from the hotel. I had a hard time locating it as there was no name on it.
For me it was a very average hotel in that price range and there are lot of hotels in that range in lido.

We have just returned from a wonderful week spent at the Hotel Byron on the Lido. We had booked our stay on-line six months ago and had put down 'A room with a view would be lovely :-)' in the special request box. Our allocated room (408 on the second floor) exceeded our expectation by having both a view and a balcony.

The room was tastefully furnished, clean, light and airy. There was plenty of hot water in the en-suite shower and toweling was fluffy and snow white as well as changed daily. The wooden shutters were a bit brittle and needed gentle manipulation to open without damaging them further but were effective at keeping the room dark and cool during our absence at day and the mosquitos out at night while still allowing some air to circulate the room. Modern aircondition they weren't but quite effective for June....

Staff were friendly and helpful - we nicknamed Diego Mr Smiley behind his back as he always greeted us with a genuine warm and friendly smile. The breakfast lady made devine coffee (latte, espresso or machiato) using coffee beans ground there and then especially for our coffee though most people just used the automatic push-button coffee machine on the side table. There was plenty of choice of tea bags, fruit and bread if one didn't turn up for breakfast last minute.

We hired the black bicycles no 2 & 3 from the hotel for €8 each a day and probably had the most comfortable and well maintained bikes of all the turists (and locals) we saw biking around. We explored the whole island in one day and even donned our fancy clothes in the evening to bike to a fancy restaurant. Altogether a wonderful experience and highly recommended.

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Byron for six nights - and we absolutely loved it! I have read some reviews that have said that the hotel was dirty, needed up-dating, and the staff were rude. We most certainly did not find this to be the case. Everything was very clean, the staff, from the cleaners to the general manager, were extremely pleasant and helpful, and, as for needing up-dating, if you want modern, why not try the Italian equivalent of Travelodge. If the Italians have one! The Byron is old-fashioned, and all the better for it. I absolutely loved the old Otis lift, the marble-tiled floors, and the wonderful high ceilings. The only reason that I'm awarding it four points, instead of five, is that there was no proper bar service, and it was not possible to obtain meals there, except the excellent continental breakfast in the mornings. Apart from that, a lovely place to stay..

I found the owner of the hotel to be very kind and helpful. Nothing was every 'too much trouble' for him. I by mistake had booked in on the wrong date and arrived to find that I didn't have a room (during the Venice Film Festival - so rather crucial). The owner was extremely kind and patient and promptly found me another room with no fuss. The Hotel isn't glamorous or high spec, but it is perfectly decent and comfortable and the staff are very helpful and kind. It's also central and close to the beach, so excellent value. ZAH

Room Tip: Ask for a room that faces out the back.

A grand building in a good location close to the beach and 5 min walk from main street with shops, cafees and the important oat (vaporetta) connections to the rest of Venice.

The hotel is old, the rooms are nice but could do with an upgrade. Breakfast buffet was good and all staff very friendly.

We were there out of season (April) and would return for a summer trip but not for a city visit

Room Tip: Ask if they have a refurbished room... Not sure they do though

First impression: the hotel itself is dated but the room was nicely maintained/renovated.

The room: we were on the top floor (5th) and had lovely views over Lido. Large and clean. The bathroom had been renovated, and the room as well. The bed was comfortable. Some things we found amusing but harmless (mismatched hangers, slightly faded decorative pillows) that might irk the truly OCD.

Service: the gentlemen at reception spoke near-perfect English and were very helpful (weather, directions to the beaches, Film Festival, etc.). The late-night shift was a bit wishy-washy (didn't give us a wake-up call, was not very alert/professional) but we had a very early 5 a.m. checkout so we gave him a little leeway. Especially since the daytime staff is so professional.

Breakfast: Warm croissants (Italian style--they're sweet and brioche-like), fresh seasonal fruit (peaches, plums, etc.), dense Italian breadrolls, yogurt (3 flavors), cured meats, cheese, and cookies. They have a juice machine (white grapefruit!) and a hot drink machine (coffee, hot chocolate)...about as good as it gets when it comes to continental breakfast!

Location: 15 minute walk (shorter if you hustle, like we did) to vaporetto stop to Venice, nice restaurants and bakeries nearby, really close to the beach, and SO relaxed and quiet compared to daytime Venice. Billa Supermarket halfway to the vaporetto for affordable food and drinks.

Overall, great value, enjoyable stay. We have recommended Byron to our friends and relatives as a great alternative to main Island hotels. :)

Room Tip: I don't know if they take requests, but try to get a room on the upper floors for a better view...
