“Our anniversary treat”
Reviewed 28 July 2014

For the second time, my husband and I traveled about an hour to get away and totally relax at this lovely lodge. Kevin's welcome and Mark's hospitality are wonderful. The welcoming glass of wine, the soft music, the resident doe and fawn, the grounds, and ambiance all wonderful. The guest kitchen, on the second floor, with juice, coffee, and tea, and a refrigerator for snacks - all worked together to make our time there quite special. Next time we will ask for a vege/vegan option for dinner, and the library setting for dinner was great. Our server, another Kevin, did a wonderful job. Nicely done sir. The hearty breakfast was also beautifully served, in a perfect setting with the morning breeze. All the staff are friendly and exceptionally helpful. We look forward to our next visit!

Room Tip: The F. Lewis Clark suite is very large and luxurious. The Hayden Lake Suite is a big smaller and ha...

This historic inn is a refreshing oasis, tucked away from the hustle & bustle of everyday life. Only a few minutes away from all the immenities it truly feels like you are hours away...See what ultimate life & luxury was in 1910. We stayed in the original Master Suite of Lewis Clark. King size poster bed, 2 wing back chairs by the library fireplace, cozy and perfect for reading, relaxation or intimate conversation. Every nook is filled with quaint welcoming seating and whispers of the past. The owners are friendly and passionate about the inn and it's history. It is relaxed luxury at its finest. Bare feet welcome & encouraged! Come relax and let Clark House get In between your toes!

My wife and I just left the Clark House. We planned on one night and stayed 3! It is beautiful, tranquil, and recharging. The house is full of history and charm.

Mark and Monty are amazing hosts. This is a truly unique and amazing experience. We left feeling refreshed and alive.

Went to the Saturday evening Cabaret show. Totally worth doing, the show is free of charge, great food and drinks. Breakfasts were huge and delicious. I want to live here!

Do not miss this place when in CDA!

I'd read all the TripAdvisor comments and knew we were in for a real treat. But wow. We were blown away.
The inside and outside is just beautiful. The surrounding neighborhood and lake were breathtaking! The staff is over the top wonderful. The food is superb. Everything has been thought of. What a great time!
Brought our dog and he was very welcomed. He loved running around on the lawn!
We stayed in the Sewing Room on the 3rd floor and it was surprisingly spacious. The view was excellent!
We did not do dinner or the cabaret show, but it looked like attendees were enjoying it. Not our demographic, I don't think.
On our first morning during breakfast, the waiter was going to let housekeeping know we were at breakfast so she could clean our room. We declined, as our dog was in the room and we really only needed new towels, so when we returned to our room there was a huge basket full of neatly folded towels, washcloths, toiletries, etc. How thoughtful!!! Felt so fancy.
Thank you, Clark House for a wonderful, fun weekend!

Room Tip: The bigger rooms looked SUPER nice but we liked our room, The Sewing Room, especially for the price...

"Beautiful" doesn't cover it. A trip back in time, an experience of luxury from days gone by. Lovingly restored, legend of a friendly ghost (Mrs. Clark, whose husband mysteriously disappeared a century ago) - an old story painted as a room-wide mural.. fireplaces, masterpieces as ceilings and painted ivy on the walls, view of mountain-enclosed lake... And service beyond expectations. Beds: modern and comfortable, but with antique headboards and furniture. Wine upon check-in, chef-prepared (and often, personally served) gourmet breakfast included. Winter rate was far cheaper (under 200) than they could have charged - a bargain for what you get. And the lake, the grazing deer.. If you go on weekends in certain months, you get cabaret or piano bar entertainment. This quality is so very rare, and the best "hotel" experience husband and I have ever experienced.

Room Tip: ask for a lake view

My wife and I spent our honeymoon here in 1996. We were very young and did not fully appreciate the beauty and grandeur of the Clark House. While we there, two gentlemen bought our dinner just down the road at a little place on the lake. For a young kid like me, to have two complete strangers be so warm and friendly, their kindness was forever engraved in our hearts. Perhaps that is why we recently went back, to see if this place was truly magical or fading memories... We were so pleased to be welcomed back, as if we were only gone for a second. The vibrant tigerwood, surrounded by warm murals and rich history are incredibly inviting. We stayed in the Honeysuckle Suite again.. ; ) The tall ceilings and fire place allowed us to relax and get comfortable. Which we gladly did as we sipped a red cab.

When Monty and Rod bought us dinner, it was more than a kind gesture. It reflected the warmth and beauty of the Clark House. The magic is still there.

It's hard to know what to add to previous reviews; this is simply a wonderful place to stay.

We were met on arrival by the owner, Monty, who was charming and welcoming and offered us a glass of wine in front of the fire with classical music playing softly in the background. Although I'm sure he was busy he spent time sitting with us answering our questions about his beautiful house, it's history and so on.

Clark House itself is beautiful, from the grand reception rooms with multiple pianos, the fire place, attractive furnishings, stately bedrooms and the view over the lawn to Hayden Lake. We stayed in the Lewis Clark Suite (an extravagance, but worth it) and I have to say, I felt rather grand. This huge room looks down to the lake, has a four poster bed so high there are steps to get in to it, there is a fireplace with twin wing back chairs and a spacious and nicely appointed bathroom. We spent a very comfortable night here and would have stayed longer if we could.

Breakfast the next morning...what can I say? It was delicious. We started with what I think was a granola topped with natural yogurt and fruit, then we had scrambled eggs, hash browns and a sausage. We needed to eat very little for the rest of the day as it was so filling.

Our only regret is that we stayed on a Monday evening, the only evening that they don't serve dinner which I've heard is always superb.

If you are anyway near Hayden Lake, try and get a reservation at Clark House, it's a lovely experience.

Room Tip: They all look wonderful but chose one with a view down to the lake if you can.
