“Trouthunter Lodge on Henry's Fork”
Reviewed 29 January 2014

Last October we were locked out of Yellowstone National Park on a fishing trip that had been in the works for several months. So instead of going to West Yellowstone for lodging we stayed in Island Park at the Trouthunter Lodge and it could not have turned out better.
Our group was my self and two friend from Michigan and a former Idaho resident that now lived in California.
Our rooms were more than we expected with a very nice furnishing and a wonderful view of the steaming Henry's Fork out the backdoor porch area. The restaurant was very comfortable as you would hope a rustic lodge in the Idaho wilderness would be. The food was very good and the two big screen televisions at either end of the dining area that were split between football and the Red Sox and Tigers playoff game.
The experts in the adjacent fly shop were very helpful with information about local water even though we had all been fishing there before. It was October in Island Park so we had a mix of sunshine and snow, but that is what fishing in Island Park in the fall is all about.

We stayed at The Trout Hunter in September, and had a great stay. The lodge is two-story, so every room either have a patio or a balcony. The rooms were utilitarian, clean and comfortable and all have a view of the river from a balcony or patio.

The lodge is both a gathering spot for fisherman about to leave and returning from their trips, and there is a fly-shop in the hotel. I am sure they would prefer if all of their guests were fisherman, but seemed to tolerate our group regardless. The staff was friendly.

The chef took pride in his presentation and food quality. Great breakfasts.

The internet connection was not that great, but we found that to be the case in other places we stayed in the Idaho/Wyoming/Montana area. At night people gather outside the restaurant and bar, or are on their balcony or patio talking, so one who is sensitive to noise should ask for a room at the far end of the hotel.

We used it as a gateway to Yellowstone and found it convenient to both Yellowstone and the nearby state parks.

The sunsets were fabulous over the river, which is 50 yards from the hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms at the far end of the hotel would likely be the quietest.

My husband booked a guided fishing trip and we stayed that evening at the Trouthunter Lodge. The room was very nice, with a king size bed and lots of space to spread out. The best part was the view from the room, looking out onto the river and the wonderful sunset in the evening. The only not so great thing about the room was the noise that could be heard in the hallway as people came and went, but once everyone was settled in for the night, it was very quiet and peaceful.
