Sawtelle offers guests a deep discount compared to hotels in West Yellowstone, but this is a "you get what you pay for."
While it tries to play up its "resort" name, unfortunately it's more like a decent motel. The good part is it at least accomplishes what a decent motel should be...clean rooms at affordable prices.
We arrived late after spending the day in the park. As others have indicated the front desk closes early, but I found our key inside a small box with my name on it.
The room provided an adequate night's sleep as we navigated Yellowstone. The furnishings were certainly dated, but it met our needs.
In the morning we settled up with the staff and were on our way.
The hotel offers a great discount for AAA members and for a hotel priced slightly higher than an in-park campground spot it's well worth it.
It should be noted this hotel is about 30 minutes outside of the park, but the savings more than made up for the gas.
