“Decent place to stay”

This is a good value, compared to the prices in West Yellowstone. Located about 20 miles from the West entrance to Yellowstone (the best entrance, in my opinion) on a very lightly travelled road.
Not a special place--just clean rooms, good service, and as other reviewers have noted--not a resort per se, but a motel. Location for activities is great, with a lot to do.

Room Tip: Do not book the lowest price single bed room, unless getting out of bed next to the "bathroom b...

West Yellowstone was fully booked and very very expensive. This is a cheaper option if you want to stay nearby. Room was okay. Nothing special but all,you need for a night over.

We didn't experience the neighborhood and the park. We only stayed there for a night and moved to Yellowstone NP the days after.
We loved the dinner at the Boondocks restaurant !

But if you really want to enjoy Yellowstone, stay in one of the original Yellowstone NP accommodations.

Sawtelle offers guests a deep discount compared to hotels in West Yellowstone, but this is a "you get what you pay for."

While it tries to play up its "resort" name, unfortunately it's more like a decent motel. The good part is it at least accomplishes what a decent motel should be...clean rooms at affordable prices.

We arrived late after spending the day in the park. As others have indicated the front desk closes early, but I found our key inside a small box with my name on it.

The room provided an adequate night's sleep as we navigated Yellowstone. The furnishings were certainly dated, but it met our needs.

In the morning we settled up with the staff and were on our way.

The hotel offers a great discount for AAA members and for a hotel priced slightly higher than an in-park campground spot it's well worth it.

It should be noted this hotel is about 30 minutes outside of the park, but the savings more than made up for the gas.

I booked the Sawtelle after searching prices/locations, etc., close to Yellowstone. Even though it was after Labor Day, there were lots of 'no vacancies' so I extended my search and found the Sawtelle. The prices are lower than West Yellowstone, and even though it is a little out of the way, we were really glad we chose this hotel. The staff was polite; and while our room was missing a few items over the 4 nights we stayed there, staff replaced what I needed right away. The room was comfortable, the bed was nice, the internet was handy. I would ask staff leave some directions for TV use however. We have DISH Network at home, so kind of knew how to maneuver through the remote, but I can see it would be confusing for others. Instructions would be great, but guests can sure ask if they need help. We stayed in a 'deluxe' room; upstairs on the end. It was very quiet and we were never bothered by any loud neighbors or noise. Would stay here again! Also a plus, if you are part of a group camping or RV'ing and you would rather have a hotel room, this is the place for all your group's likes, there is an RV park area and looks like perhaps tent camping too...

Room Tip: Ask for a deluxe room; larger! Room windows face the wooded camp area, so highway noise is not an i...

This place has good people to work with. we arrived late evening and had nowhere to stay and they helped us tremendously by giving us a great rate and somewhere to stay. we were only going to stay one night but because of the hospitality, we stayed an extra night. Very nice place to stay and has great cabin condos to stay in.

Sawtelle is not fancy, but is clean, comfortable and affordable. It's nestled in a woody area about 20 miles from the entrance to Yellowstone. There was a little confusion upon check-in, because I thought I had requested a 1st floor room because we have an old dog who doesn't do stairs. The front desk staff juggled reservations and we got a 1st floor room early the next morning. The restaurant across the street, the Island Park Lodge, was great. I ate Idaho trout 3 nights in a row and my husband got a wonderful filet. Unfortunately, my retina detached mid-stay, and we needed to return home a day early. Despite their no refund policy, they were kind enough to refund our last night. I would definitely return.

Room Tip: Go for the luxury. It's very basic, but comfortable. Request 1st floor, if stairs are a proble...

Planned our honeymoon trip to Yellowstone and Grand Tetons, but couldn't get through the mountains because of snow. We were past the cancellation date, but called the hotel to see if they would issue us a credit to use during the Summer instead of just taking our money. The manage was rude and refused to work with us. The hotel just took our money. We will not book with this hotel ever again.
