My wife and I have stayed at this property several times over the past few years and have never been disappointed. For couples, this is a nice alternative to the Sun Valley Lodge. Quiet and cozy with a European feel. The staff is always very nice and helpful.

Though a visitor to the Sun Valley area for more than a decade, I had been hesitant to try the inn referred to by locals as "Snob Hill". On my most recent, trip, though, I decided to avoid the family-focused Sun Valley complex of hotels and condos and try the Knob Hill Inn. I was not disappointed! First, I found the staff friendly and helpful. No snobs here (not counting guests, I suppose). While the inn is directly off Highway 75 -- the main north-south route through insanely popular Ketchum, the inn has managed to create a seemingly isolated retreat. This is due in large part to delightful, gorgeously planted gardens. The rooms are wonderfully appointed and comfortable. I booked late and got the last available room -- usually a sign of trouble ahead but this room was very nice. There was a wet bar, separate dressing, shower and WC areas, and a wrap-around balcony with window boxes containing no less than 200 petunias. The linens and duvet were top notch. The small fridge was full of water and juices -- no charge -- and the hotel thoughtfully provided signature water bottles for hiking and lip gloss -- dehydration being something to guard against in the hot, dry summer climate. Breakfast (included) was very good, the servers friendly, and someone was constantly replenishing the buffet whether it needed it or not. The Austrian bakery items available at breakfast and at tea time were authentic and delicious.

I only have a few slightly negative comments about this inn. Prices are steep and going up in 2006. You do get what you pay for if you're willing to indulge. The balconies wrap around the entire floor (no dividers), so privacy could be an issue. I emerged from the bath one afternoon to find a fellow chatting away on his cell phone outside my window. Also, the very good restaurant, Felix, has moved out of the inn so there is no dinner available on site. Ketchum is very small with many fine dining options, so it's not a big deal. I would suggest, though, the introduction of an honor bar for beer and wine in the lobby. There's a bar in the very pretty lobby, but the area remained totally vacant during my entire stay. I would have liked to have guests over for a drink in the evening.

As lodging options in Ketchum/Sun Valley decline (all the good, small B&Bs have closed), Knob Hill Inn is a wonderful choice for those seeking a luxury retreat in laid-back Ketchum.
