Review of The Snake Pit

The Snake Pit
Ranked #1 of 2 Restaurants in Kingston
Price range: US$9 - US$25
Cuisines: American
Description: The Snake Pit, built in 1880, is Idaho's oldest restaurant. We serve breakfast, lunch and dinner 7 days a week all year long. Our ribs, pork, brisket and salmon are all smoked in-house, and we are notorious for the best Rocky Mountain Oysters in the area. The historic building is full of memorabilia from the last century of mining and logging. Finish this all off with house-baked pie or wild Idaho huckleberry ice cream and you have a perfect day. We are on the North Fork of the Coeur d'Alene River in an ideal spot for fly-fishing, bicycling, hunting, floating and camping.

Very interesting building, boring food. Its called the Snake Pit, so they aren't bragging about their cuisines. The top floor was reputed to be a cathouse, and you can almost imagine the girls with their legs hanging over the railing. Fun stuff to look at, far more so than a fast food joint, who collectively also don't have food to write home about. Lots of gnarly wood.

The estate of the last owner who passed away recently has the Snake Pit up for sale. They are doing the minimum amount of work to keep it open.

This place it worth the stop just to see and experience it. It has been a bar since i don't know when and has lots of interesting stuff on the walls. The breakfast buffet was great. The prime rib not so prime.

It is currently for sale, but is a great place for history in a vintage building. Food is consistently very good. We hope to see the new owners carry on the traditions of the past.
