OMG what a lovely place to stay. As far at Lava Hot Springs goes, it is a very quaint, low key, thrown back in time little town. The hot springs and the pool obviously bring in the touristos, but the little town itself is a gem. We enjoyed ourselves so much. The town is probably 3 blocks by 5 blocks. The hotel we stayed at was the Home Hotel. lt obviously was an older hotel, but totally remodelled in the rooms. Funny, it had the old radiator w/ the old fashioned chenille bedspread. But the carpet was new and the bathroom had beautiful hand laid tile in the bath and on the floor. The countertop and table were marble. It had an interesting mix of decor. A combination of older themes with modern flat screen tv, wi fi, refridgerator, modern artwork, wicker and rattan. It was very nice - but small. The room was immaculate and the bed has the most wonderful pillow top - VERY comfy.
While strolling thru the town, we discovered the "Sunken Garden". It is so magical. We walked by it 4 / 5 times before finally ventured down into it. What a beautiful, awesome little park. They have carved it out of the lava rock and made a walkway into flowers, vegetation and gorgeous landscaping. We just love old, pristine, towns. Lava has really tried to make the best of the situation. We have driven past Lava dozens of times and neither of us could think of a reason to stop. It looks like a dull, dried up nothing of a town with a slide and swimming pool. We truly take it back. It is incredible. I totally felt like I was back in areas of California with the vegetation and the fragrances and aromas of the trees and flowers. WE WERE IN HEAVEN. Please give the Home Hotel and Lava a try.
