“Awesome place to stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 June 2012

OMG what a lovely place to stay. As far at Lava Hot Springs goes, it is a very quaint, low key, thrown back in time little town. The hot springs and the pool obviously bring in the touristos, but the little town itself is a gem. We enjoyed ourselves so much. The town is probably 3 blocks by 5 blocks. The hotel we stayed at was the Home Hotel. lt obviously was an older hotel, but totally remodelled in the rooms. Funny, it had the old radiator w/ the old fashioned chenille bedspread. But the carpet was new and the bathroom had beautiful hand laid tile in the bath and on the floor. The countertop and table were marble. It had an interesting mix of decor. A combination of older themes with modern flat screen tv, wi fi, refridgerator, modern artwork, wicker and rattan. It was very nice - but small. The room was immaculate and the bed has the most wonderful pillow top - VERY comfy.

While strolling thru the town, we discovered the "Sunken Garden". It is so magical. We walked by it 4 / 5 times before finally ventured down into it. What a beautiful, awesome little park. They have carved it out of the lava rock and made a walkway into flowers, vegetation and gorgeous landscaping. We just love old, pristine, towns. Lava has really tried to make the best of the situation. We have driven past Lava dozens of times and neither of us could think of a reason to stop. It looks like a dull, dried up nothing of a town with a slide and swimming pool. We truly take it back. It is incredible. I totally felt like I was back in areas of California with the vegetation and the fragrances and aromas of the trees and flowers. WE WERE IN HEAVEN. Please give the Home Hotel and Lava a try.

Room Tip: We stayed in room # 448 Totally awesome little room !

Rooms are clean and beds are very comfortable with cotton bedding. Soap and shampoos are all natural. This hotel seems to have sound ecological practices and a fun decorating theme in the hotel rooms; Each room is decorated with prints of a famous artist who was alive around the time the hotel was built in 1918, like Gustav Klimt, Frida Kahlo, Monet, Picasso, etc Staff is friendly and helpful. We stayed there coming and going to Yellowstone..

The exterior of the building and sign is nice and clear, easy to find and centrally located on the towns Main St.. It is near the Hot Springs, restaurants, and River float tubes. We were greeted by a very friendly attendant and was filled in with information on the area by the attendant the next morning. Coffee only is available in the lobby each morning, but not tea or chocolate. The problems were, the rooms have no phones to call the front desk, although they always had an attendant available for quick service. The person that takes care of the room's daily servicing did not make the bed or pick up the dirty towels. We also ran out of toilet paper. Small things that could easily be corrected if they decide to do so. All in all, not a bad place to stay.

Room Tip: lower level easier access to front desk. No phones in rm

We decided to stay at the home hotel just on a whim, but to our surprise the place was actually quite nice. The front desk help was great very nice and all smiles. The room that we stayed in was wonderful, the tub was huge. I didn't even have to go to the hot pools, the room was all we needed for a vacation. Oh, and the bed i had to take a look at what brand it was because it was so comfortable.

We will definitely stay there again. Rooms have been updated, very comfortable beds, and the rooms have nice big tubs. Clean and well kept.
