“Trains loud at 3a.m.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 July 2014

Clean facility, helpful staff. Packed to the gills in each campsite. Trains went through just up the hill several times during the night. Lots of loud partiers and laughing. We were there Friday and Saturday night. It was pretty quiet around 11 or 12 pm. Town is in walking distance as was river floating. Sweet little tourist town. River floating was a blast. Many tube rental places in town, plus they supply life vests. You might think about going to the Koa on a weekday vs. weekend. Staff will provide ear plugs for sleeping.

We were the first people to stay here in March, 2014 and the only ones in the facility.

The staff were extremely nice and caring.

The grounds were well manicured and the electrical boxes and water spigots all appeared to be new.

Nice location along the river and in walking distance to the famous thai restaurant downtown and lava hot springs.

I would stay there again.

We were on a camping tour of the West of the States and were on our way from Lake Tahoe to Yellowstone. We stopped here for a night to break the journey. It was lovely to not have to put up the tent and bliss to have a matress to sleep on. Lovely restrooms and showers with good dish washing facilities and laundry. Yes it is close to the railway but I was so tired I slept without waking until dawn.

We were pulling our RV to Yelllowstone and decided to spend a night in Lava Hot Springs and enjoy the hot springs. We made reservations at the KOA. When we pulled in everyone was very nice and we were directed to a nice grassy spot that backed right up to the river. We also noticed that we were right next to a main highway with pretty heavy semi truck traffic. I figured we could deal with it since there are not alot of RV camping in Lava Hot Springs. What I did not see or realize was right next to the highway and up the bank about 100 feet was a railroad track. Here comes about a 75 car train chugging to pull the grade along with the squeaking and rocking of the cars. My first thought was you have to be kidding me! The older gentleman in the office came by and I said he was lucky that the train had not come by while I was checking in or I would have been gone. He apologized and said they had been putting up with it over 22 years and just got used to it! When asked how often they come by, he said a couple of trains every 4-6 hours. Oh boy! My wife and I went on down to the hot springs to get a little relaxation unsure of what the night would bring. When we came back from the hot springs, sticking in the door of our RV was two packages of ear plugs. Thank you Thank you Thank you! We put in our ear plugs that night and had a great nights sleep not hearing the river running behind us, the semi's rolling by or the trains pulling the grade. Ear plugs should be issued with every check in!

We've made the trip to this camp ground at least once every year, before it was a KOA. The new owners have made some nice improvements to the property. I was reluctant to come this year after a scheduling snafu with the new owners during their transition period. Glad I still came.

It was too noisy and too dirty here. Noise from cars, trains, and planes. Very dirty here, not worth the high price. We stayed here for one night and would not come back. Next time, we will push down the road and find someplace cheaper.

KOA, great that you can get in late, but the spot that we had....and almost every other spot we looked at were SO SMALL, we did fit 2 tents but it was tent to tent, NO ROOM, the campsites and placed inbetween trees so yes there was shade, but your neighbor was there the WHOLE time, no serenity which usually happens when you're camping. Hated how small it was! There was 2 bathrooms each had 1 shower, the maintenance guys did a good job of cleaning these, almost 10 times a day so that was nice but getting hot water while others were running water or flushing toilets was nearly impossible.

River, it was fun to tube, not a bad walk from our campground up to the top of the 2 waterfalls. We nearly drowned...probably bring life jackets if your group is drinking all day, the second waterfall you stay to the left and we bumped a tube that hit us to the right, I got sucked under the current probably 4 spins underwater worth and came up gasping for air, other than scratches and blood on our bodies we all made it but this scared me to death having a 3 year old at home...eye awakening, couldn't believe that people had their kids and babies (in lifejackets but still) on this river....not safe!!

Bars, we only went to the "blue moon"? not sure on the name it had a moon in it. It was very small town type of bar, no ID person at the door, which led to a police raid on the last night that shut the bar down, chick bartenders were sitting there smoking while making drinks, I asked for lemons she grabbed a handful in her hand and handed them to me...not so worried about germs I guess haha.

Fat Jack's Burgers, Al the owner personally made sure our visits were great, love the small town feel, he even made me something not on the menu just cause I wanted it. Great food, a little pricey but their garlic fries were dang good, don't order extra though cause your meal comes with them. There was also a "sweet shop" ice cream place right next to it open till 11, homemade fudge (snickers was pretty dang good) and icecream, I had bubblegum, not too impressed, but they do have a square scooper...interesting. Overall a fun trip.
