11:30 p.m. I had no reservations anywhere and was flat out done driving for the night. I chose this place mainly because it was the first hotel I saw. Fortunately despite this I was able to check in without any problems. I wouldn't try this during homecoming or graduation or whatever, but otherwise you're probably OK.
The hotel is very dated and basic. It's also clear it has a large number of long-term tenants (unsurprising given that Moscow is a college town). That said, the bed was comfortable, the room was relatively clean and the price was right. That's what I needed that night. As a matter of fact I wound up staying again two nights later simply because it was in my comfort zone at that point.
This is not the first place you'd choose in Moscow, but in a pinch it's perfectly fine.
