Best ski in ski out at Schweitzer hands down. Go to the pool or three hot tubs after skiing or have the kids watch a movie in the theater. Chimney rock restaurant is great! (Children's menu and portions very limited and expensive) but the rest rocked, unique choices and even vegetarian options. All very friendly staff. We came back to the rooms for lunch in kitchenette, perfect mid day rest for all. Mountain is by far the best skiing in the pacnw that we've found. Reasonable prices (compared to similar well know resort make it "doable" for a fam.
Selkirk lodge is THE WAY to go for family travel or a guys/girls ski trip. Stocked to have been there. Can't wait to get back

Room Tip: Get the larger size w 1/2 kitchen and save a bundle on lunch and get some mid day down time. Dinner...

There is little open - only a coffee shop in the AM and a restaurant but only til 3 PM. I made sure to get a room with a fridge and microwave. There a 6 switchbacks on the drive but it is beautiful at the top of the mountain. Very poor internet service, couldn't get on most of the time. The beds were a dream! I would stay here again. Liked the parking garage.

Great place to bring your kids. Friendly staff. Ask for Dig, she is the best to help you make your trip one to remember! Zip line, rock climbing and euro bungee jump (all kid friendly) plus horse back riding. The pool is wonderful and the view outstanding. Not a mosquito in site.

We stayed at the White Pine lodge just before July 4th. We rented the condo with a bunk bed and there was plenty of room for 2 adults and 4 boys ages 9,10, 12 and 17. Loved hiking the nature trail, the chair lift, and the zip line. All day pass is good but the kids did get bored of doing the same activities over and over - probably would have just paid to zipline and maybe ride the chairlift. The condo was great -- would have been helpful to have a baking pan but made do with the bottom of the broiler pan -- if you want to bake anything you may want to pack one. Also would have liked to have recycle options for the "trash" from the condo. The beds are awesome - really comfortable, and we really enjoyed the pool over at the other building.
The kids enjoyed being able to borrow movies each night, and the whole atmosphere is very relaxing but with fun options so no one gets bored. Having a Walmart at the bottom of the main road was very convenient for grabbing supplies (although this is still about 20 minutes away) - we were bummed on our last day because our son wanted yogurt and the little café didn't have any. We were told it should arrive in 30 minutes but almost 3 hours later when we left it still hadn't arrived. Favorite part - early morning hikes to amazing panoramic views and seeing a black bear wandering near the chairlift. Will definitely go back some day!

Room Tip: If you want a view of Sandpoint make sure to request a room that faces down the mountain.

We stayed at the White Pine Lodge over the New Year's holiday and had a great time. They have two hotels at the top of the mountain, one is the Selkirk and the other is the White Pine Lodge. I’ve stayed at both and like the White Pine better. The rooms are nice, clean and have a full kitchen which is very helpful because it can get pricey to eat out for every meal. I’m not sure if they have any rooms with a full kitchen at the Selkirk but I don’t think they do. The White Pine also seems to be newer and the prices for each at the time we stayed were very similar so for the value, I think the White Pine is a better pick. The only negative was that the internet connection and cell service are not good on the mountain. There is almost no cell service at the hotel. It's difficult to get a signal.

All in all, we had a good experience and would stay there again.

Recommendations:
Bring food and your drinks and stock the fridge. It will be convenient and you will save a lot of money! Remember to bring any spices, I think they had salt and pepper but that was it.

We spent a weekend here during the "shoulder season" . If you are looking for quiet this is the place to go this time of year. However, next time we would rent a condo type room since our room was a standard and did not have a refrigerator or microwave. Normally this is not an issue but there was no where to eat so we had to go back and forth to town which is a 20 minute drive down and up the mountain. The bed was a memory foam which was our first experience with one and it was very comfortable. The hot tub and pool felt great on a chilly evening with a great view of the mountain and the waterfalls coming down this time of year. We did some hiking up one of the mountain trails and it was very beautiful. A little muddy but the sights were worth it. All in all we would probably go back but would keep in mind the lack of food nearby.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the lake. If you can't get a room with a refrigerator the deck outside i...

This was my second stay at the White Pines Lodge. I take a ski vacation every year with a multi-generational group. This year the ages ranged from 25 to 85. This is a great ski in/ski out lodge- you can roll out of bed and be on the lift in minutes, and at the end of the day, you can kick off your ski boots and be in the hot tub in short order. I like the convenience of a full kitchen. My husband is a fabulous cook- so we prefer to eat in. It was an easy trip to visit the other rooms for happy hour and then back to your own room to eat dinner in comfort. There are 2 drawbacks. the "free breakfast" is awful- unappetizing food and surly waitstaff. Secondly- and there is nothing the hotel can do about this- Schweitzer has wonderfully groomed slopes- which means the groomers are outside your window while you try to sleep. Fortunately the great skiing compensates for the nightly wake up by the snow cats!

Room Tip: I preferred the view of the valley to the mountain view- but both are great.
