The Best Western Plus Edgewater is in an excellent location. Beautiful lake front views and an easy walk to down town Sandpoint. The bar and restaurant service is very good. We enjoyed the excellent menu and tasty food.

I stayed at the Edgewater in the early 1990s for a holiday weekend of skiing and it was VERY tired at that point. After recently reading Trip Advisor comments about the property, the nice updates but the noisy trains, I was torn between staying at the Edgewater Best Western and La Quinta Motel, downtown Sandpoint. I chose the Edgewater and was very glad that I did.

The Best Western was recently updated, about 2 years ago according to staff. All rooms have a view of the lake. The drawbacks were that the check in desk is in a very narrow hall way, and there's no on site continental breakfast. However, the rooms were very nicely decorated and clean. I was aware of the train noise from the tracks nearby, so asked for a room that would be quiet. They placed us in room 137, near the swimming pool and hot tub. Rooms in the 100 series are actually in the basement, so the location muffled the noise of the trains. We did not hear the sound of the trains over the older, somewhat noisy heater that provided wonderful white noise. The only hassle from noise was with the people who stayed in the room above us. They would start their morning about 5:30am. I could swear that they were exercising in the room above us. Not very good insulation between the floors. The front desk staff offered to move us to a different room, but I declined. They then promised not to put anyone in any other room above us/near us. We were in town for midweek skiing so the motel wasn't too full. We enjoyed being close to the hot tub so we could walk a few steps from our room to the tub, after a long day of skiing.

We were pleased to learn that we could purchase our ski tickets (vouchers) at the Best Western for a $10/day discount per person. The vouchers didn't have to be used that same day. There was some leeway.

Trinity Restaurant provides the food on site, but isn't the official Best Western Restaurant. They had a nice selection of food for our breakfast and dinner that we enjoyed there. Many of the locals told us that Trinity had one of the best dinners in town. The evening we ate there there was a large group dining ahead of us, and there was only one waitress in the restaurant. She was working hard to please everyone, and we didn't feel ignored. The restaurant manager felt badly for our delayed food so comped our glasses of wine. We really appreciated that!

We parked our pick up at the motel and walked just a few minutes to the heart of Sandpoint for dining and entertainment. We were minutes from restaurants, brew pub, winery, chocolate candy store, shopping, etc. The Edgewater was in a lovely and prime location. I later spotted the La Quinta Motel on the way to Schweitzer Mountain for skiing. The motel was on a busy block with no view of the lake. It likely would have been very noisy. I am so glad that we decided to stay at the Best Western Edgewater. We'll be back!

Room Tip: The train tracks are near the motel, so ask for a quiet room.

We have stayed here several times before. The rooms are comfy, all rooms face Lake Pend Oreille - nice. The parking in ample. Restaurant/bar changed since last visit. Menu looked appealing, but didn't eat there. We had a beverage in bar. It's an easy walk to downtown, and we always do. The pool/hot tub are inside, and have a view of lake, nice.
Wifi & a lobby computer are nice to have. Free newspapers in lobby as well. Our stays here are always in winter (Schweitzer Ski Resort nearby), but this would be great in summer as well; park & lake super close! The only downside I see is that the hallways are cold (remember, we visit in winter) - they are lined with sliding glass windows. No heat at all. It would be very expensive to fix this, so understood. How long does one linger in the hallway anyway? We'll be back.
