Diamond D Ranch
Reviewed 11 July 2014

We stayed at The Diamond D Ranch this 4th of July with our 4.5 year old and 3 year old. Words cannot express how great of a time we had. Beautiful hikes, world class fishing, horse back riding that offer breath taking views and 4th of July celebrations that are fun filled for the entire family were just some of our experiences. The best thing about Diamond D is the warm hospitality the staff offers . Each guest is made to feel like they are apart of the great family who runs the ranch. Our kids were exhausted each night from all of the fun adventures they shared with other kids on the ranch. This truly is an experience that everyone should share. It was so nice to get away from the stresses of daily life, cell phones, iPads and television and enjoy the beauty that surrounds Dismond D!!

We were married at the Diamond D Ranch last August. It was the dream wedding we had hoped always hoped for. We brought what we needed or wanted and they set up everything from flowers to decorations, made the cakes and everything went off without a worry or hitch. The chapel was a beautiful place to get married and riding to the reception after was a truly memorable experience. The reception with band was outstanding! The owner and staff couldn't have been more accommodating. We had a small wedding party who came for the weekend and they were able to enjoy family time before and after the wedding on their own. It was the perfect place to get married and to get away. Breathtaking scenery, absolutely warm and wonderful staff and the wedding of a lifetime - doesn't get any better than that!

There are a few experiences that you know will stick with you for life- and this stay was one of them-- we have never been treated so well anywhere we've stayed. The Diamond D family really understands true hospitality and made us feel like a part of the family. The Ranch is special in more ways than just the setting and we can't wait to come back! Advice for fellow travelers: enjoy the quiet and wander around a little in the evening- you see great birds, etc.; ride the trails as much as possible and get to know the horses; go to the lake in the evening to see the resident beavers; definitely spend some time up in the chapel- it is a beautiful place; the hot tub under the stars is the way to end the day

A little personal note for the Diamond D family:

Tom- to a fellow dog lover--- we really enjoyed the talks on the deck & at the dinner table --- will never forget your "big dog who eats car seats and ticked Linda off" story- don't recall his name, but you know who we're talking about

Linda- your smile lights up the whole place & you are the obvious heart of this Ranch- lovely spending time with you

Brittany- you are a funny and fantastic trail guide and wrangler- I got a great shot of you photobombing Sasha on that one trail ride, we'll send it

Jake- you seem to be a jack of all trades, kudos to you-- and thanks to you and Brittany for the lassoing lesson

Kara- you have your Mom's big heart, and you obviously have a huge part in how smoothly the Ranch runs-- a pleasure to meet you and will keep in touch

Michelle- to a fellow cook, bon vivant and character- we salute you

JR- thanks for indulging us with "talking shop", sharing your story, and for the fly fishing lesson

John-- good luck this fall in the backcountry- make sure Michelle keeps giving you second breakfast helpings so you can put on a layer of insulation and stay warm out there

Heather- nice to get to know a fellow equestrienne and your smile lights up the place- hope you have fun and keep the ribs in place

Shawn Lee(hope we spelled that right)- fantastic chicken salad :) your spirit and big heart really add to the Ranch- and Bree is a sweetie- although you may need to stock up on windex the next time to run to town for supplies

Dana- you seem to be a get it done person with crazy horse skills and I get the impression the Ranch would not run without you- good luck getting and keeping those horses shod for the summer

Jen- you seem to know how to do everything on the Ranch with a "no problem" attitude- good luck commuting and hope to get to know you better next time

and most importantly, kisses for Kimber, the sweetest black lab ever; and Billy & Howdy, our trail ride buddies who took great care of us

Room Tip: we were in the suite with balcony facing the barns- really nice- definitely recommend this room

We stayed for a few days in July for my sons 5th birthday. It was truly memorable. From the moment we arrived, we felt like special VIP guests. We soon discovered this was the normal
treatment for all lucky visitors. The accommodations are just right. We could hear the creek from our cabin and it was a quick little jaunt over to main lodge. The food was perfect. As a mom, it was a real treat to not cook one meal! I know this was a dude ranch, but we came to explore the area, and just relax with our little ones. Our boys got to have corral rides with the so sweet wranglers and the other guests came back elated from their rides. My husband was happy to finally end his dry spell fly fishing. He caught a big one! The scenery is epic, the staff are remarkable and we are already booked to go back this year. I can't say enough and if you are considering, book. You won't be disappointed. Worth every penny. It's an unforgettable place we have so many fabulous memories from...

What a great place! Family friendly, dog friendly (I think our dogs had as great a time as we did!), incredible scenery, awesome staff, peaceful - can't say enough good things! We went trail riding, fly-fishing, hiking…had an impromptu music night - we were bummed we only got to spend 2 nights and vowed to spend at least a week next time…we can't wait for our next trip this year - hunting, hot springs, fishing, 5-star meals - what more could you want!

We chose this remote location to relax and return to a simple life (i.e. no TV, no cell service). It worked. It was so nice to leave the phones in the car and forget about work.

We enjoyed good food, people, new friends, horses, and pristine wilderness. Connie did a fabulous job with all of our meals. We ate well every time we walked into the dining room. Cara and Dana took us on some fun horse rides and shared the beauty surrounding the ranch. Tom and Linda told us about great hikes. The Loon Creek Canyon trail offered a change of scenery and a photo op every few minutes. It had everything from gray, white, and reddish-pink granite walls to aspen groves and rolling hills with open spaces. The hot springs along the Loon Creek trail were a bonus but the hike is amazing on its own.

Also, thanks to our new friends who (patiently) taught us how to play bridge.

Room Tip: We stayed in Modern Cabin 1 and loved it.

We spent a week at the Diamond D, and we literally cried when we left. The Demorest family who own and operate the ranch is so warm and welcoming: Kara, Dana, Jenn, Heather, Brit, Jake, and Tom. We didn’t get to meet Linda, the “Queen” of the ranch, but anyone who heads a family like this must be an amazing and wonderful woman (she even built the gorgeous cathedral by the river by herself, one stone at a time over ten years!).

The horses are so well trained and healthy. The food is absolutely delicious. The cabins are warm, clean and lovely with comfy beds and plenty of storage. And the setting is gorgeous, every direction you look. Our family of 5 (mom, dad, 11 year old, 9 year old, and 4 year old) couldn’t have found a better place to spend our family vacation.

By the way, the fishing is incredible! My husband is an accomplished fly fisherman and he was dumbfounded by the number and quality of fish every day. And aside from other guests, he didn’t see another fisherman the entire trip.

There are also other activities: mountain lake hikes, hot springs hikes, volleyball, fantastic swimming pool, hot tub, target shooting, kickball, campfire, rowboats on the lake, bar/dancing night, and more. We engaged in most everything. And also found time to relax in the lodge or on the porch.

For our little one, the girls working on the ranch were happy to babysit so we could find some adult time. And the wranglers were happy to offer pony rides too.

Rustic yet elegant. Secluded and pristine. Warm, welcoming and professional. The Diamond D is exactly what we were looking for. And more. We’ll be back!

Room Tip: For more seclusion, choose one of the cabins down by the river.
