Mountain Village Resort

"Resort" may be an overstatement, but we enjoyed our stay here for one night. It has the typical regional log cabin styling, with an attached restaurant, merc across the street and gas station. we had lunch at the restaurant and it was adequate. We did choose to go further up the road for dinner in the evening. We were able to use our two free lounge drink coupons for coffee instead in the morning. We had micro and fridge, no AC and it got a little warm and we had the window open most of the evening and overnight. THE MAIN attraction here is the natural spring hot tub down the road behind the hotel. It is AWESOME!!! Check out the photos on the TripAdvisor review for this hotel and see how its set up. It shouldn't be missed. You have to schedule it ahead of time, but no one else showed up when we were there and the "rules" are pretty relaxed. Free for guest of the Mountain Village Resort. Couldn't get near the laundry facilities, not supervised at all.

Living in Idaho we get to see the Sawtooth Mountains often, but when family comes into town we want to show them the spectacular views. So this year we head off on a 10 day vacation with my brother and his wife. Leaving late on the first afternoon we arrive Stanley. We don't make reservations so we checked Upper Stanley first and all motels were full along the river. So back to the Mountain Village Resort. They had a room left with 2 beds which is just what we needed. Good clean room. They had a picnic table outside to sit and relax for a while. They also provided coupon for the restaurant next door for 10%off the meal. Plus a coupon for a free drink from the bar, however, it was Old Crow for the Whiskey, I'll pass on that one.

Room Tip: If you can get a room on the East side of the hotel you will have the view of the Sawtooth Mountains...

This year's motorcycle adventure took us to the U.S. Northwest, destination Idaho. Our interest in this part of the world was piqued by a wonderful PBS program called "Outdoor Idaho" and a feature they did on the scenic byways throughout the state. We wandered into the mountains along the Sawtooth Byway and came across the charming Mountain Village Resort. With the Sawtooth Mountains and Salmon River framing the rustic lodge, we had to stay even though our plan had been to push further that day. Great accommodations, friendly folks, okay food (we weren't looking for anything upscale), excellent roads for motorcycle travel -- and the scenery every bit as spectacular as PBS promised!

We stayed for three nights in Mountain Village Resort. The room was comfortable clean and in a great location. Brenda at the font desk was friendly and helpful but the other staff member was not so courteous. There are services right there which include a gas station, market, restaurant and great outdoor equipment store. You can also book time via the front desk for a hot spring associated with the motel however it is in a small building along the river to keep it private for hotel guests only.

We stayed one night here, but when I checked in I made sure to ask if they had an available time slot in the morning for the hot spring. They did - at 7 am. Perfect!

When you check in you're given coupons for 2 complimentary draft beers and a 10% reduction off your meal bill along with your $100 room. I say use the beer coupons and toss away the 10% coupon because the restaurant's sub par. A much better place to eat is at the Kasino Club, across the road in Stanley proper.

Our room was on the second floor, which was a very good thing because it's a wooden, creaky building and I'm sure you'd suffer from people walking above your room. We had a microwave, but no fridge, in our room. The room looked a little dated, but was clean and comfortable. The air conditioner was noisy.

In the morning we went to reception and asked for the keys to the hot spring. We were given the keys and pointed out back to follow a path to the stream. They key unlocked the door to a wooden shack inside which was the hot spring. This is a natural hot water spring fashioned into a large jacuzzi-like pool. It's fabulous! One the west side were barn doors than could be opened to give a view over the Sawtooths while one soaked.

It appears that this motel is used primarily as a staging area for rafting trips and hardly anyone utilizes the hot spring. We had the place to ourselves. It's a must if you stay here.

Room Tip: The second floor is a must.

Just there for a weekend. There are new owners so I'm excited to see what they do with the place. It's clean, small, old hotel. Lots of people stay here the night before a MF trip, nothing spacial. If you're looking for a clean bed and want to stay in the middle of town, it's a great option. .

The mountain views were amazing but the resort was dark , dirty , out dated and had spiders and cobwebs in all corners of the room. This was by far the worst place we stayed in our 3 week vaca cation to South Dakota. It didn't look at all like the pictures on the internet , complete disappointment.
