“Great Place to stay in winter”
Reviewed 20 September 2013

Stayed here for a ski race in March 2013. It was a little expensive but very convenient for the team, as everyone could stay in the same place. they have a fantastic outdoor pool, right between the two buildings and an outdoor skating rink.

We were pretty busy skiing, but the room was comfortable and clean. The bath was awesome, LOTS of water pressure and really hot water for a good long soak.

bar not terribly atmospheric but an OK place to meet with other parents when kids were all off doing their stuff.

it was a very quick and easy trip into town to eat at numerous places.

Stayed 3 nights n this charming resort and had a blast! Golfed, rode the gondola and saw the ice show and buffet. The staff was very helpful and friendlyM the resort was just beautiful! Still a bit smoky from the recent fires, but we were still very happy to be there! Very proud of the firefighters who worked so hard to safe such a wonderful place!

Room Tip: We stayed in a king suite that was very nice! Loved the vanity area and the marble bathrooms! The s...

Stayed 2 nights at the SV Inn, little sister to the SV Lodge, just around the corner, which all total come in under the name of Sun Valley Resort. Have never stayed here before, and was here on business. The Lodges entrance portico had people crawling all over it to see the exotic cars that had just rolled in: 4 Bugatti Vitesses - now I agree, you just don't see that everyday!! On the other hand, the Inn was short of valets, doormen, baggage handler, and staff at reception, you name it when we arrived to check in, so it was pretty much "do it your self", which is probably Ok. After a rather long wait, we made it to our room, that was unacceptable due to a mold-like odor - but the facilities manager changed out the room and made amends within minutes! The new room was gorgeous, spacious and spotless. What started out touch and go, ended in a wonderful experience in an amazingly beautiful mountain paradise. Note that the Inn and the Lodge were both totally sold out for this weekend for the famous Car Rally (of which I was not in attendance : )) But I will agree with several other reviewers that pointed out that exceptional Customer Service in general did not come across as number one. Sorry SV Inn.

Room Tip: Sorry, no tips for Sun Valley Resort as usually when in Sun Valley, I stay at private residences tha...

My husband has a conference every year at the resort. Normally, we stay at the Lodge but this time it was closed while we were there. So, we stayed at the Inn.

It was nice, the rooms are pleasant, but a medium room at the Inn felt smaller than a medium at the Lodge. The beds are comfortable, the coffee has greatly improved (it switched from generic room coffee to Starbucks) and the chocolate is delicious.

The room was spacious and well appointed if in yesterday's decor, but that is really what it is about don't you think? The splendor of bygone days. Beds comfortable and so on, but rough around the edges. Some staff seemed to be in need of training in hospitality and there is no sense of "the customer is always right" or what can we do to make things better for you? That attitude of some staff permeated our stay from beginning to end.

This is a lovely, old inn. Our family stayed here for 5 nights over Spring Break. We got a package deal of $300/night which included skiing for all 4 of us. Quite a deal! The skiing alone would have cost $300/day in lift tickets. But I think I would have been disappointed if I'd paid this much just for the room. Though comfortable enough, it was quite dated and in need of new furnishings, beds, etc. It was very dark with inadequate lighting. Bathroom was tiny, but it did have a large vanity area outside the bathroom which helped. Our family of four always felt a bit cramped. We ended up using the locker rooms near the pool for showers and facilities when we returned after skiing all day because there just wasn't enough space in the room. They provided morning coffee in the lobby, but it ran out by 9am or so. I was surprised to find very few places to sit and read/relax. The vast majority of the inn's public space is for conventions, and the available lounging spaces are kind of dark and uninteresting. The staff was nice enough, but certainly didn't go out of their way to provide exceptional service. Overall, I think the inn has seen better days and needs an overhaul to bring it up to date. The huge hot tub was fabulous, however!
The Sun Valley village area was cute, but we found most shops and restaurants had already closed for the season, or just shut down early each day. We were a little surprised to find this as we thought Spring Break would be a busy time, and we chose to stay at the Inn because of the access to the village activities. Skiing was great! We'll be back for the skiing, but I'll stay in a condo next time.

Second time staying at the Sun Valley Inn, and was surprised with the number of problems we had. Primarily, we had several issues with our room, including a constantly running toilet, a stained comforter, a bath tub that didn't drain, and a shower with heat control issues, among others. When these issues were raised repeatedly with the front desk, assurances that they would be fixed were generally followed by inaction.

Room Service was incredibly slow, taking over 45 minutes to arrive in the AM (had to leave before it actually arrived). Had a similar problem ordering breakfast in the restaurant, where the food took over 40 minutes. Generally, we found the staff to be unhelpful or borderline confrontational when issues were raised. There were definitely some folks working who were great, but were surprised by the number that weren't.

One stellar area was the performance of the bell service and drivers, who were incredibly helpful, friendly, and worked really hard.
