“Great Stay”
Reviewed 22 November 2013

Sadly I stayed here just before the snow season started (Conference) and during the ski season it must be simply great. The hotel is lovely and the staff were all perfect in every way. Rooms big and really nice (only complaint would be that the AirCon could not be turned off).
It's not a cheap place to stay so for me it would be a special occasion but a really nice place, spacious, welcoming and friendly.

We've been to Sun Valley many times (always in the summer) and this time decided to splurge and stay in the Lodge. A real treat and loved the history of the lodge and photos of celebrities, skiers, and skaters along the hallways. We stayed in Rm 403 overlooking the rink - a real treat taking coffee or wine breaks out on the balcony watching the skaters. Got paired up with a skating coach for my daughter and I and skated twice a day all week long - Kim Navarro is a great coach! Had dinner and watched the fabulous 4th of July skating show - the ice show is a wonderful SV tradition! Swam at the pool every day, played tennis, went horse back riding, went bowling, went to the spa while husband went fly fishing, and cycled into Ketchum for shopping and dining on occasion. I think we did almost everything that SV has to offer - what a great vacation spot and will definitely be back. Maybe sometime even in the winter.

Room Tip: Room 403 has a great view of the rink. 2 queen beds for a family. The room is a bit small but view...

It's difficult to find any fault with Sun Valley Lodge. Of course such perfection comes with a hefty price tag. The main lodge seems like a club complete with a roaring fire for even chilly summer nights, excellent food and relaxing bars. The outdoor swimming pool is heated to 90 degrees F all year. You can ice skate year round. The grounds are landscaped to take advantage of natural streams and the mountain environment. The rooms, especially the apartments, are huge. The staff defines accommodating. If you can afford the Lodge it's heaven.

This place has the glamour of old Hollywood with so many famous stars having visited here. It feels like they could walk in at any minute and they would recognise it.

They run the movie 1940s movie made here, Sun Valley Serenade, on channel 66 continuously, which is really fun, you have to watch it.

The room was lovely and old fashioned in a good way.

The bed and pillows were super comfortable.

The shower could do with replacing, however, the towels and toiletries were fine.

There was a fridge, coffee maker and desk in the room, but no microwave or iPod dock.

Surprisingly with a luxury resort, the parking and WIFI were free. Breakfast was extra.

There are lots of things to do here: I went ice skating and skeet shooting.

There are also free shuttles to Ketchum if the shopping in the village isn't enough for you.

The lobby and public areas are great for sitting, reading or people watching.

It's a place you have to stay at least once and more if you can!

For the second time, we brought a group to Sun Valley, and again, they exceeded our expectations. This is a wonderful location and a beautiful facility with a gracious, professional staff. From the sales department through the housing and banquets - and even billing, they did an outstanding job. Thank you, Sun Valley!

This was my second time staying at the Sun Valley Lodge, the first was 2009. Not much had changed during that time and that is a good thing. It is quaint, the staff is friendly and the hotel grounds and amenities are well kept.

It is a gorgeous location a little outside of Ketchum, but one wouldn't really need to leave the complex. There are shops, swans and plenty to do onsite.

I would say however that it is an older hotel and the soundproofing of the rooms is not so great. If you have trouble sleeping with other room noise ask at the front desk for a fan.

Room Tip: I was on the 1st floor in a corner room (165). It looked out over the skating rink on one side and...

The Lodge is always terrific This time of year it is pretty slow so it is very relaxing. Staff was terrific and the woman that was the locker room/pool attendant was terrific. Although the bar staff was too busy to come out to the pool for our group, she took our order and one of the bar staff did bring us drinks. It was very much appreciated. Some of the other restaurants in the lodge area were closed due to it being between seasons, but there is a pizza place and another one. The servers in the bar were very friendly and did a great job. We enjoyed our staff and played golf at the Sun Valley course. Loved the course.

Room Tip: Almost all rooms are good.
