“great food”
Reviewed 20 March 2014

Have visited this Pub/Restaurant several times & never been disappointed, food is wonderful & always something different on the menu from the run of the mill normally seen.
Bar is inviting with a log fire, & they have a small cosy restaurant to the side, the staff are efficient & friendly. on my last visit I had deepfried black pudding, Lamb Pie in a chilli sauce, & topped it off with a gooseberry creme brulee.

“Best pub food in the area”
Reviewed 18 March 2014

We were taken to The Plough by friends and had a faultless meal before Christmas. Since then, we have been 3 times, preferring to travel 10 miles to go here rather than eat at our local pub in Kintbury. On every visit, the food has been great. Prices are definitely reasonable and the ingredients are local where possible. The venison we had on our last visit was shot locally and provided by Vicars in Ashampstead. Another time we had Dexter filet of beef which was lovely. Puddings are also good and I had the cholesterol boosting pain au chocolat bread and butter pudding one time. Superb for shortening your life.

OK, it looks a bit run down from the outside but ignore this, it's perfectly nice inside and the food is the star here.

Fantastic food in the Lambourn valley. Log fire and wide range of locally sourced produce. Great atmosphere and real ales. Be sure to book at peak times!

“Awful to be avoided”
Reviewed 10 March 2014

My husband booked a table here for my birthday tonight and when we arrived the frosty barmaid said she was surprised we had booked as there was nothing written down and we would be the only people in the restaurant so we decided to sit at a table in the bar. The barmaid brought the menu and then pointed out that two of the dishes were unavailable and were we aware it was only a limited menu on Mondays. If the person taking the booking had pointed that out we would have gone elsewhere. We decided to go home. No one else was eating and it all looked very run down and judging by the manner of the woman serving perhaps they are struggling. We had travelled for half an hour so I would advise anyone to look elsewhere.

“Ticks all the boxes! Already looking forward to our next visit....”
Reviewed 30 December 2013

Went here with family members who live local and recommended it. Was not disappointed! Sat by roaring fire - ideal for a cold and wet winters day. Excellent selection of starters, mains and desserts (even more so for a midweek lunchtime) as well as an excellent selection of generously filled sandwiches. Cajun chicken excellent quality, super home made burger and a large sized, beautifully fresh battered fish goujons. All served with cracking chunky chips/wedge potatoes. Was not anticipating having dessert but they sounded so lovely and each one we ordered (and shared!) lived up to the (high) expectation set by the main courses. The rice pudding was the best I ever tasted! The ale and wine matched the quality of the food and the service was friendly and attentive. I couldn't stop commenting on what a great place it was and we have already organised to return on a weekend evening in a month's time. We always look for an informal venue that delivers on location, ambience, quality and value and often end up compromising on one or two elements. From my experience this ticks all the boxes!
