The Brooks Hotel is centrally located in downtown Wallace ID and has a restaurant and bar. For some reason they put us in a tiny room. It was dirty too - pillow cases and window sill. My wife took a dirty pillow case and a dirty rag from cleaning the window sill to the front desk and asked for a replacement.
The bathroom was tiny and you had to reach backwards to reach the toilet paper and try to balance.
The bed was uncomfortable as it didn't have a solid headboard - just a shelf for books.
My wife is only 5'2' but she had to duck her head to get past the tv and around the bed.
The No Smoking sign on the door still had the price tag on it ...
When we checked out the manager was there and didn't seem concerned about the dirty room. They have bigger rooms for a few dollars more but they didn't tell us about them - and we won't stay there again.

Our family (2 adults + 2 teenagers) stayed overnight after riding our bikes on the Trail of the Hiawatha. The room included a kitchenette, 3 queen size beds, and a bathroom. The beds were nice and comfortable, the room was clean and smelled good, and we had an open window for fresh air. We were able to store our bikes in a secure locked room overnight, so we didn't have to leave them out on the car. Everyone was so friendly and helpful! We had a fantastic breakfast in the hotel restaurant the next morning - wonderful huckleberry lemonade! It was a wonderful antidote to the icky cubicle kind of motel with stagnant-air-conditioned air that is the norm. We are looking forward to our next stay!

My husband and I stayed at the Brooks last weekend and had a very nice visit. The rooms are small and the bathroom needs some attention, but the price was so reasonable it would be hard to object much. Bring your own shampoo as they do not provide it, but do try and have a meal in the cafe. We received fabulous service both for dinner and breakfast and the food was very good. My husband is very picky about the doneness of his meat and their chef cooked his steak perfectly. The waitstaff was very friendly and helpful. If you are looking for a place that is brand new or high end the Brooks isn't it, but if you want a place with friendly people and lots of character this is the ticket.

This is an old hotel in the middle of town, but then, everything is probably in the middle of town. We weren't expecting too much for the very low price, so really, it is quite decent for the money. OK, no shampoo. Room was a bit too warm, even though it was a cool, overcast July day. The receptionist wasn't always around and we could hear a drunk in the alley, which is what our window looked out to. No coffee, noisy refrig which we had to turn off when we went to sleep.

But heck, there was Internet connection. And it was clean. And the people were nice. And friendly. And Wallace is a cool little town.

Go check it out.

My husband, some friends, and myself stayed at the Brooks for two weeks. We had a great time and the staff treated us like family. We are returning in July 2009 for another stay though I'm sorry to say it won't be as long. It has a charming history and has been used in movies. One such movie was Dante's Peak. I hear Linda Hamilton tended bar one night. How fun this must have been.
