Interesting in the winter too!! A life sized replica of the world's largest giant squid that was found near Glover's Harbour in 1878. Local fishing vessels hauled this monster into the shores of Glover's harbour where it has been famous ever since.

Glover's Harbour was an exciting yet peaceful part of Newfoundland. It is truly amazing to stand next to the giant squid and picture in your mind what the sailors must have thought when a creature like this came towards their ship.
The people of Glover's Harbour are always more than welcome to share their history and stories about their wonderful town.

The Museum has a picture perfect location along the steep sided , sheltered bay, south of Leading Tickles. Glover's Harbour is a quite peaceful community of 74, near Point Leamington, that has an amazing claim to fame. The monster the town is famous for, was celebrated in 2011 on a Canada Postage Stamp , by a huge life size statue in town, and holds two records in the Guinness Book of World Records.

On November 2nd, 1878, an Atlantic Giant Squid ran aground in Glover's Harbour. It was 2.2 tons in weight, and measured 55 feet in length. The eye measured 15.75 inches across, and it had a 12" long beak.

You can learn a ton of other fascinating things about giant squids and this particular Guinness Record Holder ( largest animal eye and largest mollusk ) at the really well done Interpretive Centre and get some great pictures of the life size replica just outside the museum.
