We pre paid AU$160 each for Christmas Lunch and were very disappointed. The restaurant was understaffed and so therefore the service was very poor - we waited almost 15 minutes before being served any water and drinks. The fish buffet was good - in fact the bugs and prawns were cooked and presented very well.
The main course buffet was quite poor - processed turkey meat and lumpy gravy - soft veggies and cold yorkshire puddings. The beef however was good.
Desserts - the pavlova was the best dessert. Christmas pudding was overcooked and the custard was lumpy. The rest of the desserts all tasted over sweet and artificial and processed.
We were really looking forward to Christmas lunch and were so disappointed. Maybe if the service had been better - not much jolliness amongst the staff there - the food would not have seemed so bad.
We have been out to restaurants for Christmas Lunch before and found that the staff make a real effort to make a fun occasion of the event - but this element was really missing at Thala - and for the money we paid we left feeling like we had been truly ripped off!
