“Perfect and Faultless”
Reviewed 3 July 2007

We stayed for 3 nights in a Coral Sea Bungalow and couldnt have asked for a better getaway. As stated in a previous review this resort isnt for the elderly/ disabled as some cabins do have quite a walk, and there is no ramp/ lift facilities however they do have a golf buggy that is used for collection/ running around etc.

The staff where friendly and faultless in their service, always prompt and on time. We had a seafood picnic hamper ordered to our room for lunch and found it to be great value.

The past comments on the pool are spot on and totally agree that if they where heated it would have just been icing on the cake!

The private beach is great and spent an evening down there with the full moon, snacks and champagne, You couldnt have done that at any other resort within the area.

Definately heading back!!!

This Lodge is situated on 140 acres of rainforest and has its own access to two quiet beaches. The staff are excellent and the food in the restaurant was wonderful. We found the room rate expensive for what it was and this let the Lodge down. Also at this Lodge you must be mobile as the walk from some of the Units is quite hilly and the paths are not all sealed. The scenery is outstanding though. The weather was not overly good while we were there and it would have been nice if the swimming pools had been heated a bit! A spa would have been wonderful!

All the way from Amsterdam, The Netherlands we were visiting Australia. After 3 weeks travelling through the outback and other nice places we finally came to this great spot. We have had other nice stays and views at our trip. But this was the best so far.

A very warrm welcome with a (well earned :-) ) cocktail.
Our room (more like a very luxurious treehouse) had a perfect view over the bay, partly covered with braches from the rainforest.

The property with 2 private beaches really gives you the feeling of being Tom Hanks in "Castaway" only the service is much much better. You don't need to catch your own dinner. We had a barramundi wrapped in paperbark, which was excellent.

Also the 2 pools were good to cool down, and are covered from direct sunlight bij the rainforest .

When you want the company of a little more people, the town of Port Douglas is only a short shuttle bus trip away. Otherwise peace and tranquility is yours.

The canoeing trip was well worth the effort, we even saw dolphins. Fortunatly we booked this trip right after our arrival, because the other opportunities for us were already booked.

If we ever get the chance to go down under again, this resort will certainly be on our wish list.

Thanks to the staff for making our stay such a pleasant one

One of the highlights of our recent trip to Australia was a 3 night stay at Thala Beach. From the moment we turned off the main road and drove into the grounds of the lodge, a feeling of peace and tranquillity descended on us. All around was lush vegetation and an abundance of wildlife, in particular the huge variety of birds and butterflies. After receiving a very warm welcome we were shown to the treehouse that was to be home for the next few days. Perched high in the trees, with breathtaking views of the ocean, this was the perfect place to forget the world outside and enjoy a Thala picnic lunch (a must do!) and a glass or two of chilled Chardonnay - bliss! A short stroll down through the forest path takes you to the most magnificent beach - 2 km of unspoilt perfection and no other people but us for much of the time. The only drawback was that we couldn't swim in the ocean as it was stinger season, but our walks by the water's edge compensated for this (and were needed after all the wonderful Thala food!). Although it's hard to drag yourself away from Thala, one excursion we'd highly recommend is a trip to the reef. Rather than one of the big boats, we went on a small sailboat, the Tallarook. This was at the suggestion of Diana, the Thala guest relations manager, and she was spot on. It was a day we'll never forget. All too soon it was time to leave. An absolute gem of a place and one to which we'll definitely return.

we arrived at thala beach having booked it at the last minute online so didn't really know what to expect, but we couldn't have chosen a more magical place to stay!

The view from the open air restaurant looks out over the trees to the sea and Thala is set on it's own private beach. Our room was it's own seperate 'tree house' in a very private and stunning setting.

Considered design, great food, amazing scenery and wonderful staff made this a really memorable stay! We'd definitely recommend this place to anyone heading to north queensland.

But also be warned: you can't swim in the sea due to box jelly fish from dec-may each year but thala does have it's own swimming pools.

My girlfriend & I stayed at Thala for a short break a few months back. Overall I would rate Thala very highly (this is based on a lot of travel experience over the years). The staff were very helpful, polite and courteous. Made us both feel very welcome (a fair few Canadians living / working up in Queensland – to do with the British Commonwealth and easy access to work visas I believe?).

Room was fantastic as we had a stunning view over the shoreline whilst also having the privacy for a romantic stay (we had booked a Coral Sea Bungalow – highly recommend you do the same, worth the extra). Room facilities had everything you would need. Very clean and tidy.

Food was of a very good standard for all meals (crocodile curry anyone?). Aussie white wines are great! Service was of a very good standard, efficient and attentive, but most importantly, relaxed.

We went an eco tour around the estate which, I would highly recommend! One gets to really appreciate the “eco ethos” that underpins the management of the estate.

Port Douglas is only 25min drive north of the resort where one can arrange tours out to the Great Barrier Reef or to enjoy a meal in one of the many restaurants followed by a little tourist shopping to boot…

Well done and a big thanks to the Thala team for a very pleasant stay!
