“An incredible location with amazing staff.”
Reviewed 31 October 2010

We booked a honeymoon package at Thala for the beginning of October and we will remember our four nights there for the rest of our lives. From the arranged transfers, to the amazing food, deserted beaches and beautiful pool, it was just the most amazing way to spend our first few days in Australia.

We arrived early in the morning, but had no problems getting into our lodge early. The sound of the beach lapping on the shore, and the animals moving around ticked every 'tropical paradise' cliche going and was extremely welcome after 30 hours travelling.

Breakfasts, included in our package, were generous and varied, and enough to keep us full until dinner. Dinner was the best food we had in Australia, and all meals are served in the open-sided restaurant with spectacular views and parrots feeding at breakfast time.

This is rainforest country, and you will see wildlife, but the rooms were bug free, clean and comfortable. Daytime transport into nearby Port Douglas was included in our package (by the time you've paid the cost of getting there in the evening its cheaper, and probably far tastier, to eat in the restaurant) and with the range of free on-site talks and walks, there is plenty to do although if you were staying for longer you might appreciate a car.

In short, the perfect getaway location and somewhere we would love to return to, if it wasn't the other side of the world.

An excellent conference location that allows the subject matter to be obsorbed and reflected upon without the usual external infuences of modern life.
Excellent and friendly staff support, aligned with a location that is as diverse as your imagnation ensures peace and rest; specialist inclusive support for trips & excursions allows you to travel around a unique area of queensland, whilst Wi-Fi support allows access to the outer world.
Natural surroundings including the beach, walks in the tropical forest, night observations, clean cool pools and individual accomodation set within the forest all add up to a special experience.
Meals are provided to a very high standard with a good choice to suit all needs.
Cultural presentations also delivered an insight into the indigenous life of Australia.
An excellent location not to be missed when travelling around the Cairns & Port Douglas region.

My husband and I just got back from our long weekend getaway to Port Douglas. We left with an amazing experience and just cannot speak more highly about Thala. Before we got there, I was a bit worried about bugs since this is an ecofriendly lodge situated in the rainforest. Not only was it extremely clean and well presented but the grounds were just beautiful. Picture this: rows of palm trees greeting you from the road, fantastic staff, private beach, waterfall leisure pool, beautiful food, and a self-contained bungalow! That's right - you aren't sharing walls with anyone. There were a few times that I woke up to the sound of rain splashing among the trees and birds chirping their morning hellos but my husband and I did not have any issues falling back asleep with only peaceful thoughts and a smile across our faces. We both agree that are so glad that we weren’t staying in downtown Port Douglas. There are just so many tourists hoofing around that it takes away from the romance of the town (Thala is about a 15min drive from Port Douglas). Yes, I was one of those tourists but at Thala, I didn’t feel like a temporary guest. I felt like I was at a home away from home. To sum it all up, we were living in the lap of luxury and leisure.

P.S. If you do decide to stay at a resort outside of Port Douglas, I highly recommend hiring a car. The money spent on renting a vehicle was WELL worth it. Being on your own time clock during your holiday just augments the ‘holiday’ feel.

We enjoyed a great stay here, indeed our best in a 2 week trip of Australia. Lovely little bungalows and incredible setting. A wonderful beach. Very glad we stayed here rather than other sites we saw in Port Douglas (when dropping others off on the bus). the only suggestion is DONT do the coconut tour, a 2 hour near diatribe on the world conspiracy to keep people from knowing about coconuts and their fix for everything from cancer to world peace. it was rather strange and a waste of valued vacation time.

We just arrived back from Thala Beach Lodge, and we had an experience we will never forget! It's hard to find nowadays a resort that keep giving consistent customer service. From the initial check-in, we knew we were in for a memorable experience. Michelle, behind the front desk checked us in, she was so welcolming, friendly and thorough. That level of service that was replicated by all staff during our stay. We initially got a bungalow which we didn't like, without any hesitation they moved us to another which was more private and closer to the beach. The porters even came and picked us up on the golf buggies from our room to our car, as our room was a bit of hike back to the car park, and they we're fantastic too. We had some great laughs with them and many stories shared on those drives! This place had very much an Eco feel. Nature surrounds you, and once you get submursed in the resort you completely wind down and relax with all the bueaty that is close by. You also have a pristine private beach, which we used for those romantic walks! It was a good 10 - 15 mins drive from Port Douglas, so having your own car is handy! !Breakfast was very reasonable at $25 per head (great spread too!) compared to the Sheraton at $39 p/h! Breakfast staff were fabtatsic and always greeted you with big smiles! We certainly look forward to our return to Thala Beach and would like to thank all the staff for the outstanding service we recieved!! Can't wait to go back next year!

We ended our two week honemoon at Thala following a recommedation by the travel agent. We are speechless to describe the absolute beauty of the place. It's exactly as the brochure and reviews describe it. Wish we could stay longer and we have already made a commitment to come back next year.

Excellent everyting. Just be mindful that if your cabin is very close to the main reception and restaurant there could could be some noise until around 11 pm.

Oaks beach which is the private beach that the resort uses is the best swim we've had in Port Douglas.

We had an amazing time at the Thala Beach Lodge, exploring all the trails and look outs they had to offer. We spent the nights in the most romantic little bungalow overlooking the ocean, and our days enjoying all the Lodge had to offer. They had interesting aborigine hosts that taught us about their cultures and arts, a library filled with Australian guides and a business center to check emails. The Lodge staff was very courteous and helpful; they arranged our day trips to the great barrier reef and the rain forest.
The Thala Beach Lodge Restaurant was by far the best restaurant we had our meals at during our entire trip, and we ate at a lot of great restaurants. Everything on their menu was delicious; we didn’t want to eat anywhere else once we had dinner at their restaurant. The service was amazing, everyone was so nice, and the view was breathtaking. We had an amazing time in Australia and huge part of it is because we stayed at the Thala Beach Lodge.
