We celebrated our anniversary with an overnight getaway to the Vrooman Mansion in Bloomington, IL. We love old houses and this one has some wonderful features. In addition to the expected stained glass windows and ornate woodwork, there are surprises such as the English lift. We were fortunate to receive an extended tour along with an interesting history of this lovely home. We had Judith Vrooman's room which is surprisingly light and airy. Lots of extras such as the comforty robes and very nice soaps, etc. Website does a good job of presenting the house and also allows booking on-line. Definitely would recommend.

Room Tip: The Judith Vrooman room is large and airy. Leafy trees outside the windows provide a sense of privac...

I was surprised that it was in the middle of a residential area - one where you would see no travelers around. The exterior looks just like it could be a part of the neighborhood - but the inside is magical. There is a lot of history that surrounds this house... you feel like you're back in the 19th century again. The innkeeper, Pam, was absolutely lovely and hospitable even though we were traveling through Bloomington. The rooms are also great, each one named after a member of the Vrooman family. We stayed at the Carl Vrooman Suite, which I imagine is the biggest suite. The beds are comfy, and it was nice to soak in a bathtub after being used to showers all the time. I might add that this was the best breakfast I've ever had at Vrooman. Everything was well-prepared and well-cooked! I will definitely stay here again if I ever go past Bloomington, which I imagine won't happen in the near future but I hope it does.

My husband, son and I stayed at the Vrooman Mansion while visiting nearby colleges. This is a beautiful, gracious property that oozes charm and hospitality. When we arrived, Brian greeted us at the door, to the sounds of classical music from the player grand piano in the background. It is just wonderful and special walking into this grand B & B. He gave us a brief but unhurried tour of the mansion and shared some of the lore as we headed up to our room, the Carl Vrooman suite. Very clean, charming and comfortable. This room is actually a two room suite with a stunning picture window/bench overlooking the gardens. I loved the relaxing claw-footed slipper tub in the bath, beautiful marble sink, top-quality robe/towels, and all the authentic period decorations. I cannot overstate the peacefulness of this property, without phones/tvs in the room, and being located on a quiet residential street surrounded by lush gardens. There were two other guests staying that night, and the only other noise was brief, occasional floor creaking. The following morning we had breakfast in the lovely dining room with one of the other guests. Our meal, which consisted of orange juice/coffee, fruit cup, omlette with cheddar cheese and bacon, and french toast with a delicious cream cheese filling, was lovingly prepared, although our dining companion, a frequent guest at the mansion, had arranged for a simpler meal of eggs, bacon and toast. After a lovely conversion, we were off to visit colleges. I would love to stay here again the next time we are in the area.

We spent our 50th wedding anniversary at the Vrooman Mansion February 1st. We were the only ones there - but it was wonderful. Very clean, very comfortable and quite accommodating. The innkeeper was very special and a great hostess. Every room has a special story and entices one to enter "back in time". The night was wonderful with a great, comfortable bed, comfortable in every way. Breakfast was outstanding. Thanks for making our special occasion very special. Parking is in front on the street - no lot.

We stayed at Vrooman Mansion last weekend for the 2nd time. The innkeeper and staff treated us like royalty. The quality of the room, including the linens and towels, was top notch. They even brought us chocolate covered strawberries as an evening snack!

The best thing of all was they allowed us to bring in our 2 sons, daughter-in-law, and 6 grandsons for breakfast. They served us our special request of lemon pancakes, frittata, and banana split fruit cup. It was deeelicious. Yum!

I would highly recommend staying at the Vrooman Mansion the next time you're in Bloomington.

Room Tip: We stayed in Letitia's room this time and were worried about sharing a bathroom. It was not an...

My wife & I and another couple from St. Louis stayed overnight @ Vroomand Mansion in late October during a visit to Bloomington for a hockey game. The location is secluded, yet has easy access to all Bloomington-Normal sites. The property is historic and beautiful, with the history lesson a must-do on check-in for a full appreciation of the mansion. The bedrooms are well-appointed with period furnishings & modern conveniences, and the common spaces are warm & inviting. Our breakfast was delicious & filling. Innkeeper Robin and the rest of the Mansion staff were very friendly & made us feel right at home. They are obviously proud of their work and of their Mansion, as they should be. Thanks to the Vrooman Mansion Family for a wonderful visit. We hope to join you again.

Room Tip: Pay a little extra and reserve a room with a private bath, unless you enjoy meeting people when you...
