“Clean and welcoming”
Reviewed 19 August 2013

We chose this b and b as it was very close to a wedding we were attending. It was unfortunate that our room wasn't ready at the time we had previously arranged, however we were still able to get changed in there and it was then cleaned whilst we were out. This minor issue was more than made up for by the fact that we didn't make it downstairs on time for breakfast (we misread the info leaflet), but we were still offered a full breakfast before leaving.

Staff were very pleasant and helpful and our room was clean and comfortable with free wifi, hot drink making facillities and a television. It was fairly small (with a double and a single bed) but we managed fine. The only downside was that staying in the summer, we had to sleep with the window open and therefore had a bit of traffic notise. It didn't really bother us though and We wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

Stayed at the black lion and had a wonderful time. Nigel the landlord is a lovely man who can't do enough for you. Rooms very comfortable and newly refurbished. Everything you need. Breakfast wonderful with locally sourced top notch ingredients - a real treat. Also enjoyed superb evening meal, again wonderful home cooked food of excellent quality. The Black Lion is a lovely old traditional pub with a wonderful bar full of character and lots of fine beers to choose from.
Great value for money and a great location. We will be back soon. Rach & Mark

We decided to try the Black lion for food although the reviews were very mixed we liked the idea of food served all day on a Sunday so we didn't have to eat too early so a booking was made for ten of us three children were included, to my surprise kids ate free with a paying adult. On entering the pub the barman was friendly and welcoming we placed our orders and didn't have to wait to long for our food which was well presented, generous in size , and tasted lovely the lamb and beef were maybe a little well done but I guess that is personal taste, the two steaks were cooked as ordered medium rare. I have to say nothing was to much trouble for our Polish waiter who had a great sense of humour and perfect English praise where praise is due, we will definitely return in the future.

Walked into bar and barman total ignored us as he was talking, asked a young girl and she told us to go straight into restaurant, and from the time we sat down it took an hour for us to get our food, and we were the only ones in there. Food was ok when we got it.

We stayed in the Black Lion in June for a wedding nearby and found it handy, good value and a comfortable place to stay. The owner was very accomodating allowing us in slightly early to get ready and also due to my own booking error happily changed date without charge. Pub downstairs had a lovely warm atmosphere and good food. Comfy seating around TV and fire with stack of magazines was very welcoming and an ideal very reasonably priced B&B if you are in the area.
