Chose this b & b as it was close to a show we were attending. Arrived early just to check we knew where we were going and were thrilled to be given our room even though it was 2 hours earlier than we were expecting to have access. The room was well decorated and spotlessly clean, with lots of tea and coffee rather than just the one cup each you usually find. Also impressed that we would have access at any time in the evening no matter how late we returned. A comfortable stay, friendly staff and a really impressive breakfast in the morning. The only suggestion I would make is that maybe a spare blanket is available in the room - the night we stayed the weather turned and it was a little chilly. Luckily we had a spare bed in the room so pinched a cover from there! Minor detail though, would definitely stay again.

We called in here on the way back from Bateman's National Trust property. The barman/landlord was welcoming and friendly and even though we were close to the end of lunch time he said not to rush. The food was excellent and I would highly recommend the steak pie. The pub is in need of some tlc but despite this there was a nice feel to the place and we would call in again if passing.

We chose this b and b as it was very close to a wedding we were attending. It was unfortunate that our room wasn't ready at the time we had previously arranged, however we were still able to get changed in there and it was then cleaned whilst we were out. This minor issue was more than made up for by the fact that we didn't make it downstairs on time for breakfast (we misread the info leaflet), but we were still offered a full breakfast before leaving.

Staff were very pleasant and helpful and our room was clean and comfortable with free wifi, hot drink making facillities and a television. It was fairly small (with a double and a single bed) but we managed fine. The only downside was that staying in the summer, we had to sleep with the window open and therefore had a bit of traffic notise. It didn't really bother us though and We wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

Stayed at the black lion and had a wonderful time. Nigel the landlord is a lovely man who can't do enough for you. Rooms very comfortable and newly refurbished. Everything you need. Breakfast wonderful with locally sourced top notch ingredients - a real treat. Also enjoyed superb evening meal, again wonderful home cooked food of excellent quality. The Black Lion is a lovely old traditional pub with a wonderful bar full of character and lots of fine beers to choose from.
Great value for money and a great location. We will be back soon. Rach & Mark

We decided to try the Black lion for food although the reviews were very mixed we liked the idea of food served all day on a Sunday so we didn't have to eat too early so a booking was made for ten of us three children were included, to my surprise kids ate free with a paying adult. On entering the pub the barman was friendly and welcoming we placed our orders and didn't have to wait to long for our food which was well presented, generous in size , and tasted lovely the lamb and beef were maybe a little well done but I guess that is personal taste, the two steaks were cooked as ordered medium rare. I have to say nothing was to much trouble for our Polish waiter who had a great sense of humour and perfect English praise where praise is due, we will definitely return in the future.
