“Great stay in a neat little town”
Reviewed 6 November 2011

Well, we stayed in Chester because it was a good stopping point on our way to St. Louis plus we wanted to see the popeye statues in town the next morning. The hotel clerk (a real cutie by the way) was friendly and the room was reasonably priced. The hotel room was clean and the beds were comfortable. We got a good night's sleep. The continental breakfest was good as well. Thanks for a great stay.

I have stayed in this Best Western a number of times. I always found the staff friendly and helpful. The complimentary breakfast area is small, but has plenty of goodies for breakfast. They now even have a waffle maker. The hotel does not have an elevator, so I always need to request first floor and FAR away from smoking rooms because of health issues. They have always honored my request. The small lobby area is attractive with a fireplace; if you don't have your computer with you, they have one in the lobby for your use. The outdoor pool is lovely in the summer weather.

There are not many options in Chester. I think it's only this hotel and a B&B which I have not tried. The good news about the hotel is that the staff is great and their hard work shows. The hotel is clean, a nice complimenatary breakfast is provided, the outside pool and picnic areas are nice, and everyone was very helpful and friendly with local information. There is just one big problem....hotel guests must smoke in some of rooms even though they are designated non-smoking. Therefore, my best advise is that if you need to stay in Chester, then make sure you are very clear with the hotel staff that you want a non-smoking room that has REALLY been a non-smoking room. Our "non-smoking" room really stunk, and in hindsight, I should have complained right away to see if I could be moved. I guess I just thought the smell would dissipate in a few hours with the windows open, but it did not. Family members staying in other rooms didn't have this problem so it's not a problem with all rooms.
I do think the hotel could do more to solve this problem...maybe by threatening a smoking penalty if someone breaks the rules. They also need to launder all the soft goods (drapes, bedspreads) and clean carpets to try to get the smelly "nonsmoking" rooms back to normal. I don't recall if they do have a designated smoking area, but if not, then they need to assign one so at least the smokers have an outlet that prevents them from stinking up rooms for us non-smokers given this is the only hotel in town. I think the patio area in the back would be okay for this. On a side note, we ate at a very good italian restaurant in Chester that I would highly recommend. I think it's called Marcello's...or something like that...it's just up the street from the the popeye museum & park with the gazebo.

We used this place to stay for one night when we where on our way from Chicago to Memphis. Because we did some sightseeing in St. Louis and because we wanted to drive along the Great River Road, we choose to stay here. And it was a perfect place! Check in went fast and the hostess gave us tips where to go eat. There is Wall-Mart half a mile around the corner so very convenient if you need to do some shopping. The room was perfect, good beds!!

So if you are in the neighborhood and looking for a good place to stay, don't look any further but stay here!

I recently had the opportunity to stay at the Best Western in Chester, Illinois. The quality that stood out to me the most during this stay was customer service. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating. We were traveling with young children which can be quite challenging. The staff at this hotel were warm and friendly and asked how they could make our stay more comfortable.

The rooms were very comfortable and the continental breakfast was very good. If I have to travel to this area again and need a hotel, I will definitely stay at the Best Western in Chester, Illinois!

Smelled like a dirty ash tray. We slept with the windows wide open all night in 20 degree weather. It was better than getting cancer from inhaling all the stench from years past of nasty cigarette smell. The toilet clogged every time you used it not matter what type of business you were doing in there. Not to mention the size of the toilet would be too small even for my three yr. old nephew.... and we are not big people mind you. Instead of them giving us a new room due to toilet problems we were given a plunger in a plastic dirty garbage bag from past toilet problems (SICK). The bed had awkward stains on the sheets and felt like we were sleeping on lumps. We slept fully clothed in jeans and hoodie sweatshirts in hopes to not get contaminated. If you're ever stuck in this small town of Chester, Il. sleep in your car or run while you can for this is the only hotel.... hotel of torture!!!!

In short, the rooms were clean and comfortable and afforded a great nights sleep. The WiFi was free and moved at a decent pace, and the hotel was quiet, although there were very, very few people there when I was. The staff were about the friendliest that you could hope for, and consistently so (except the owner, who was present but seemed to make no effort at acknowledging any guest, even when he walked past -- just seemed odd). If you stay, don't count on the 'free breakfast' in the morning doing anything at all for you -- it's anemic by even camp standards. The price has gone up recently. I can't pretend to know anything about the true costs of running a hotel, but when you're the only one in town . . . . . .
