I use to live in Chicago so trying to find a place that was not outrageously expensive for 5 people was a conquest. I was searching for condos to rent in Hyde park for 4 days to celebrate my mom's 82nd birthday and found the Beadle Residences online. It was affordable, spacious, updated, clean, staff friendly and conveniently located in the heart of so many attractions and shopping areas. Best of all it was one block from my family so we walked to and from visiting while we were there. It was a great experience! 2 hotel rooms with parking would have been the same price or more. The free parking was accessible day and night for residents of the property because parking in Hyde park is almost non existent.
Thank you Beadle for making our stay affordable and enjoyable.

This was a happy surprise. We were visiting the University of Chicago, and the local Hyde Park neighborhood does not have anything approaching a flagship hotel. From what we could tell on the web, the Beadle Residences was our best bet for comfortable, multi-day accommodations.

Once we arrived, we discovered that the bedrooms (2BR unit) were spacious and well appointed. The kitchen area was very nicely outfitted. The wood floors were in immaculate shape. And the furniture was simple but well-maintained. Ditto for the bathrooms. The price was right. And the off-street parking was very welcome.

I know some visitors a few years ago had issues with room quality, but I have to believe that management has addressed those concerns -- and then some. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a pleasant, comfortable place to stay in Hyde Park.

We came to Chicago to attend the University Of Chicago. This was a fantastic location, really close to the University only a 10 minute bus ride. Close to many amenities, grocery store, Pharmacy, Starbucks and restaurants. Also very close to Downtown, only a 20 minute bus ride. The apartment suited our needs perfectly, very cosy 1 bedroom apartment. The Site Manager was fantastic, extremely helpful and made us feel very comfortable. Highly recommended.

We were at the Beadle for 21/2 months while my husband was recovering from a bone marrow transplant. The room was wonderful, the staff was perfect and the rental agent was very accommodating. Everything played into making a very stressful time relaxing. The Beadle became our home away from home.

I came to Chicago to help a sick relative through treatments at the U of Chicago hospital. I found the Beadle to fit my not-too-fussy needs perfectly. I had a furnished 2-BR/2BA apartment with full kitchen, including stacked washer/dryer. My stay kept getting extended due to the medical circumstances. The Beadle worked with me to make it more affordable. I stayed in 2 different units and have seen others (some fancier than the ones we were in). Our units were comfortable. There were some quirky things, but any big problem I brought up was quickly remedied. The on-site manager couldn't be nicer or more helpful. She did amazingly thoughtful things for us, way above and beyond the call of duty. If you are looking for a fancy hotel chain with daily cleaning and lots of amenities, this is not going to be your place. This is an apartment building, but they keep several units unoccupied for short-term rentals such as ours. It is convenient to shops, groceries, restaurants and coffee, bank, a park, the University, all on foot or bicycle. There is off-street parking for the building. It is a quick Express bus ride into downtown Chicago (20 min, $2.25 adult fare), or there is a Metra train (more expensive, I didn't try this). It is a fairly quiet tree-lined neighborhood. There is no elevator and our units were on the top (3rd) floor, so that was a little difficult for moving in and out. You can walk or bike along Lake Michigan, which is only about 10 blocks away. I really loved it here and consider it my Chicago home-away-from-home.

We stayed at the Beadles Residences for about 2 months this past summer while on a short sabbatical. We rented a 2 bedroom unit on the second floor (2 full bathrooms as well - one of which has a jacuzzi). We soon felt completely at home and Marjana, the house manager, took care of every wish and need. The apartments are furnished sparsely, and the kitchen equipment is rather basic, but everything is adequate and in decent taste and shape (and whatever you don't have and crave - management will get for you). Location is good - half way between the U of Chicago and the Metra train station. Supermarkets, drugstores and plenty of cafes and restaurants are also within walking distance. Hyde Park is an interesting, diverse neighborhood, which we learned to like. Just north of The Beadles is the beautiful neighborhood of Kenwood. Plenty of nice walks around. However, like many Chicago neighborhoods, it's not always completely safe, and if you intend to leave a bike or a stroler on the deck outside the rooms make sure it's locked with a U bar.
The major disadvantage of the place is that it's not really a hotel - there is no "lobby" or "reception" in the usual sense of the word. On weekends there's nobody around, although you can always call the office and leave a message. The apartments are not regularly clenaed, and you need to pay extra for cleaning.
If you're looking for an extended stay in a fully furnished and convenient place (with parking), I would highly recommend The Beadles.

Room Tip: If you stay up on the 3rd floor you have lots of steps to climb but you don't hear the neighbors...

We rented a 2 bedroom unit for 2 1/2 months while our sister was having treatment at U of C. The manager was wonderful and did everything she could to make us comfortable. We are Southerners and she even brought us a space heater so we could endure the January & February temperatures! The location is so convenient to restaurants and grocery shopping. We loved the neighborhood with the old brownstones, too. When we had a car, the covered parking was a major bonus. Our family had a wonderful experience at the Beadle.
