First the older gentleman (docent) knew pretty much everything. I learned that Mrs. O'Leary did not start the Chicago fire and neither did her cow. Pretty sure "Peg Leg" O'Sullivan did. There is some good dioramas on the history of the city. I would really like to have gone onboard the train but I don't think you can. Some music history is included though the one guitar/computer instruction computer wasn't working and the guitar was out of tune (at least I tuned it for them). There was a lot of information on the riots and the two world fairs. In fact the history of Chicago is varied and all most interesting.

I tend to overlook the CHM when I come to Chicago unless there's a special exhibition but it's really a fun, fascinating place that's always worth the visit. There's a little bit of almost everything in Chicago history, displayed in ways to keep you from getting bored or overwhelmed. From settlement, disasters, World's Fairs, crime, music, sports, racial struggles, transportation, the Playboy empire, to presidents and politicians...you'll find a lot to learn and appreciate about the city here.
The exhibit on Dr King had a strong personal connection to me, as a photo of the street that I lived on as a child taken during a Chicago Freedom Movement march was displayed in the gallery. I noticed a few other visitors getting emotional as well; it is a moving tribute to him and the others who fought (and still fight) for equality, tolerance, and acceptance.
The public parking lot a block north has reduced fees with museum ticket validation. Don't hesitate to visit the museum or the Lincoln Park/Old Town area. It's great for all ages and interests.

A very interesting museum about Chicago’s history. There are also very interesting section on the blues and R&B music with an interaction area. Also worthwhile seeing is the section on ethic groups. The comments from young children were remarkable, particularly how they discrimination in a white school. Quite moving to read it, makes one think.
