gorgeous building inside and out...notice that the "L" train station right beside has similar architecture style....be sure to check out the top floor (there was a wedding reception when I visited so I couldn't actually go in)...lots of light, beautiful space...free wi-fi...a nice quiet (and air conditioned!) retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city. love the baskets and shopping carts (like those you would see at a grocery store!) for your browsing needs! if staying at the wyndham blake hotel, just down the street, your room may have a view of it, too.

This is a great Libary, worth going inside to see how big it is. If you go to the top there is a really pretty floor and you can see great views of Chicago.

The Harold Washington Library is a landmark in downtown Chicago. Gorgeous exterior, underwhelming interior, free wi-fi to all visitors, numerous public art installations. The 8th floor has practice rooms complete with pianos. The YouMedia space is built for teens to hang out, mess around, and geek out--check out this innovative space in an urban library!

Because I was in Chicago for the American Library Association's annual conference, a trip to the city's public library seemed in order. What a beautiful library! I was surprised to learn that it just opened in 1991, because the building is such an architectural gem. The children's department (and its doll house featuring clues to children's books and nursery rhymes) is quite nice. Be sure to go to the 9th floor's Winter Garden for a peaceful public space to study, read or just relax.

Went there recently for family history research in their special collections on 9th floor. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The reading area quiet. The lockers seemed secure with security guard sitting by them. Good experience. Note: for genealogy research go to Newberry Library, I was looking up a specific item.
