have been to Chicago many times but never visited this museum. It was large, 6 different rooms to explore. Many original pieces from Egypt and the continent. Found it very educational and interesting! They only ask for a Donation!

A great little museum with an impressive collection! It is really such a jewel and can keep you busy for a few hours. Because it is not one of the large museums, it is not ridiculously crowded and you can enjoy looking at the exhibits for a few hours. It is walking distance from the Metra station. There is a row of old book stores and eating places along 57th street. Robie house by Frank Lloyd wright is also in the area so you can make a full day trip out of it.

What a treasure! The artifacts in this museum are incredible. While there were lines outside the Chicago Art Museum, this gem, in Hyde Park, as part of the University of Chicago kept me mesmerized for hours. Beautifully preserved artifacts and archaeological facts were amazing. Going back to 3000 BC to see how several cultures lived was captivating and the walk-through is easy. With audio tours for $5.00 available and admission on a donation basis, ($10.00 adults, $5.00 children recommended) this was an affordable, amazing afternoon! Loved it!

A small, but wonderful museum! If you are interested in ancient Middle Eastern history, the Oriental Institute is a must see while in Chicago. The museum has a great collection of artifacts which are well displayed and organized. Plan to spend a couple of hours. Nice gift shop as well.
