“Great location and pleasant staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 December 2013

We stayed at the Hotel Monaco for four nights on a pleasure trip to Chicago. The hotel is really in a great location because it is within walking distance of many of the sites in Chicago. Even though it was freezing cold in Chicago, we were able to comfortably walk to many of the good shopping areas and to restaurants. We walked easily to Millennium Park and to the Art Institute. We also walked comfortably to the Architecture Foundation to participate in tours.
The personnel at the front desk of the Monaco were quite helpful in giving us directions and also in helping us figure out routes for the public transportation system which is also easily accessible from the hotel. They were always pleasant and very accommodating. We asked to change rooms one day so that we could have a larger window and they willingly met our request.
The deluxe river view rooms are a little small but the view from the window (particularly the rooms with larger windows) is quite nice particularly at night when the river area is lit up. The beds were comfortable and generally everything that we needed was available. We did not particularly care to go downstairs to get coffee in the morning and they did not hesitate to get us a coffee maker for our room. They also have a wine hour for guests each day which is a very nice treat. Overall it was a pleasure to stay here.

Room Tip: Larger window with river view

Dear Jan H. -

Thanks so much for sharing your experience with us!
Our location is definitely one of our best assets, second only to our wonderful staff. I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed both during your stay. We look forward to hosting you again soon, don't forget to ask for a window seat when you book!

Totally different from what Expedia described as our room. The front desk staffs made sure that we book through their Kimpton site next time we want to enjoy a better stay at Kimpton. Kimpton has to realize that guests who book through internet sites are very discerning consumers who will definitely review their stays (especially when the stay went bad). The hotel maybe renovated but if you get a room without a view, the only thing you will be staring at out the window would be a brick wall, with construction noise (at the time of my travel, August 2013). Complained about the noise and they moved us to a slightly larger room with the same brick wall view + huge ventilation fan box (at least it was better than the construction noise, but you need a good pair of ear plugs). Like all boutique hotels the rooms were ssssmalllllll! Will not be going to another Kimpton for a long time.

Chicago is an architecturally interesting city with lots of pleasant surprises and it's great to find a hotel that is much the same.

The Hotel Monaco Chicago is a well-located hotel only a very short distance to the river and near to just about everything, from the downtown attractions to shopping and other sights.

Like other Kimpton Hotels, this is a hotel with warmth and personality. This isn't a bland chain hotel, but, rather, has pleasing and off-beat decorating. I was upgraded to a suite on my arrival. When I came into my room, I was greeted by a towel cleverly folded into the shape of a pig or dog. The decorating was whimsical and the room comfortable.

The staff was welcoming and eager to please. Like many Kimpton hotels, they have a complimentary wine happy hour around 5:00 with above average (and free) offerings. If you become a Kimpton member (an easy task), wi-fi is also complimentary. It was fast and reliable.

My room had essentially window seats with a nice view, flat panel televisions, and nice furnishings.

I look forward to staying here again.

Hi ElaineandGreg -

We're so glad to hear that you were 'pleasantly surprised' by your stay at the Monaco. We're happy you got a chance to enjoy some our favorite Kimpton amenities including Wine Hour.
Our room attendants like to have fun at work, especially with their towel animals, and we're glad you enjoyed their creativity as well as our unique decor.
We certainly look forward to hosting you again soon!

Cheers,

I am lucky enough to travel around the USA for work and I wanted to write to say how impressed I was with the Hotel Monaco which I stayed in for a weekend shopping break. The location right by the river and less than a 5 minute walk to the Magnificent Mile is fantastic. The comfort and attention to detail of the rooms is first class and it's definitely worth upgrading to river view rooms if you can. The service was exceptional with special mention to Foster at reception, Ryan at concierge and the doorman who could not do enough to help us during our stay. Definitely one of the best hotels I have stayed in!

Hey Mandy M!

We're glad to hear that you got the chance to join us for a little retail therapy weekend and you enjoyed your stay. The river view rooms are great, and so is the staff, we're happy you were able to experience both while you were here.
Hopefully you're able to come visit us again soon!

I have become a fan of the Kimpton hotels--they are typically warm, welcoming and entertaining. Though as they grow there has been a little unevenness in the quality of each hotel. Which is why I am delighted to say the Chicago Monaco has a great staff, is well operated and the hotel rooms are lovely. I highly recommend this as a great base in Chicago (my room overlooks the Chicago River which is really calming!).

Room Tip: 1211 is a comfortable suite (good for small meetings) with a terrific view.

We spent three nights at Hotel Monaco in mid-November and were really impressed with the facility, but even more impressed with the staff, which was very helpful and accommodating. They even offered to stick some of our restaurant leftovers in their microwave! As others have said, the river view is well worth a few extra dollars and the window seats are awesome. The location is great: easy walking distance to good shopping, Millennium Park and the Art Institute as well as the train that goes to Midway Airport. We definitely will stay here when we come back to Chicago!

Dear Ann292013 -

Thanks for the review! We are definitely proud of our views, but even more so of our awesome staff! I'm glad they took good care of you during your stay and that they even took care of your leftovers for you (was it deep dish???)
Our location is great for getting around the city, and it's great that you got the chance to take advantage of the city's public transportation options.
We hope that you'll come back and see us the next time you're in Chicago!

Thanks again,

We had a wonderful stay at Monaco hotel in Chicago! The room was excellent, the amenities includes a robe and very good bath products. The smell at the room was incredible. The staff is very attencious, the complimentary coffee is very nice. Everything was wonderful at ours stay last november. The bar/restaurant is excellent as the location. Near (walk distance) the Loop area and Magnificent Mile. This hotel is a perfect choose in Chicago.
