We stayed here for a weekend getaway to Chicago. An amazing property. The staff went above and beyond anything we have ever experienced at a hotel to help us celebrate our engagement. The room was clean, modern and the perfect space for our needs. Our room had a beautiful view of the river and downtown Chicago. The pet goldfish to greet us in the room was a plus too!
The restaurant in the hotel was great, awesome innovative drinks. I had room service breakfast one morning. It come up quickly and was delicious. I loved our stay and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in chicago! The price was very reasonable for the accommodations as well.
(Note: We choose to self park at a nearby self park garage for $44/day instead of using valet at $56)

Room Tip: River view is a must!

Dear ahlong86 -

First off, congratulations again on your recent engagement, we're honored that you allowed us to be part of such a special celebration!
The river views are pretty fantastic, and our Guppy Love program is pretty great if you like some company in your room.
SouthWater Kitchen has some great cocktails, and we're looking forward to the new menu rolling out to see what Chef Roger has come up with to keep our bellies full.

Perhaps a honeymoon in Chicago is in order? No matter when you plan to come back, make sure to reach out to us so we can take care of all the details of your stay!

Best Wishes,

The hotel was terrific in every way, arrived weary from traveling through snow storms. Front desk was there was a smile and efficient. Offered a welcome glass of wine and upstairs to a beautiful room - Great view. This hotel is in a wonderful location, is nicely decorated, spotlessly clean and staff is friendly and helpful. Would recommend in a heartbeat! I will be back Hotel Monaco (perhaps in the spring when you can walk around!). Thank you for a much needed comfortable stay.

Hi dajuma39 -

Thanks for joining us after your company party, and even though you didn't get to spend a lot of time exploring with us, we're glad your room was clean and our staff was helpful.
We look forward to seeing you in the spring when you can enjoy our location along the river and near a ton of great things to do in Chicago!

Sincerely,

Located in the heart of downtown Chicago just south of the river and just off of Michigan Avenue, this gem of a hotel is an oasis in a city cluttered with high end sparkling high rise hotel. The staff was gracious and efficient. The room was ready even though I had checked in early on a Friday afternoon. The room was plenty big with a spacious bathroom and well appointed room. While the view outside my window was less than thrilling, the room more than made up for it. The afternoon wine reception did not disappoint. Fairly decent wine with a few snacks to keep you filled up until diner time. THe check out went just as smoothly and swiftly as the check in. GOod rates most of the time and within walking distance of most of Chicago's major attractions.

I stay in Kimpton properties almost exclusively for work, so I've seen a lot of them. The Monaco Chicago is definitely one of the best I've stayed in so far. As others have said, the hotel location is great, and the public/room decor is modern and hip but not overpoweringly so. My room was spotlessly clean, the wifi worked flawlessly, and there's an easily accessible business center that really helped me when I was in a pinch. What really set the Monaco apart for me, however, was the staff. From the doorman to the bell services staff to the front desk, everyone I encountered was genuinely warm and friendly. Business travel is often a lonely thing, but the Monaco staff made me feel truly welcome every time I entered the lobby.

Although the attached restaurant - South Water Kitchen - really merits its own review, special props to Dan the bartender. Not only is he one of the most talented bartenders I've ever encountered, he's also one of the nicest. If I was a Chicago local, I'd go out of my way to sit at his bar.

An all around great stay at the Monaco.

Hey Amanda G -

We're doing our happy dance over here after hearing that we might have snuck our way into the spot of your favorite Kimpton...that's a tough achievement!
We could not be more proud of our team at the Monaco, and they truly do their best to connect with our guests like friends and welcome them into our home.
We also appreciate the special shout out to Dan, you're not alone , we're pretty happy to have him behind the bar as well.
We are most definitely looking forward to your next trip to Chicago, and hope to see you again at the Monaco!

Cheers,

I and my wife stayed for 7 nights from 30 Nov to 7 Dec 2013 for a mix of business, holiday and relaxation. My wife attended the annual Radiology conference in McCormick place and our son joined us from New York for a couple of days.
The hotel has a very nice location in the loop and the surrounding area is full of theatres, restaurants, shops & malls. Everywhere (State street and Michigan Avenue) is in walk-able distances. Taxi cost 50USD from and to O’Hare international airport.
All members of staff were friendly and cooperative.
Our (Accessible River View Queen Queen Roll In Shower) room (615) was clean and capacious with good river view, and beds were comfy. The bathroom was also spacious and clean, however the shower’s water was spilled allover the bathroom very easily after each use.
We had complimentary internet (as Kimpton InTouch loyal members), daily newspaper, companion goldfish, and morning (lobby or room) tea & coffee service. There was a free-of-charge yoga mat in our room and free 24/7 fitness centre in the second floor. There was complimentary shoe shine service, however NOT used.
There was a complimentary 10USD (raid the minibar) coupon, however we would be more than happy if it was worth more than that (say 25USD for minimum of 2-3 nights stay) to be used in the South Water Kitchen restaurant which we did NOT try and preferred to visit other nearby restaurants like Catch 35, McCormick & Schmick’s, Morton’s, Joe’s, Roy’s & Quartino,
Recommendation: This hotel is a nice quite and central place to stay in Chicago.

Room Tip: River view. Cepacious. Away from elevators.

Dear Nassermkaplan -

So glad to hear that you had an opportunity to join us for both business & pleasure on your recent visit.
Kimpton InTouch does offer some sweet perks with membership, and it's great to hear that you got to take advantage of most of them, including the Guppy Love program! We'll definitely take a look at the shower in that room to make sure there aren't any issues in the future, and thank you for letting us know.
While the Raid the Bar credit is a standard $10 around the Kimpton nation, you are able to use it in any of our restaurants - including SouthWater Kitchen - towards any of your meals/bar experiences there in the future.

We look forward to hosting you again soon!

Sincerely,

We stayed at the Hotel Monaco for four nights on a pleasure trip to Chicago. The hotel is really in a great location because it is within walking distance of many of the sites in Chicago. Even though it was freezing cold in Chicago, we were able to comfortably walk to many of the good shopping areas and to restaurants. We walked easily to Millennium Park and to the Art Institute. We also walked comfortably to the Architecture Foundation to participate in tours.
The personnel at the front desk of the Monaco were quite helpful in giving us directions and also in helping us figure out routes for the public transportation system which is also easily accessible from the hotel. They were always pleasant and very accommodating. We asked to change rooms one day so that we could have a larger window and they willingly met our request.
The deluxe river view rooms are a little small but the view from the window (particularly the rooms with larger windows) is quite nice particularly at night when the river area is lit up. The beds were comfortable and generally everything that we needed was available. We did not particularly care to go downstairs to get coffee in the morning and they did not hesitate to get us a coffee maker for our room. They also have a wine hour for guests each day which is a very nice treat. Overall it was a pleasure to stay here.

Room Tip: Larger window with river view

Totally different from what Expedia described as our room. The front desk staffs made sure that we book through their Kimpton site next time we want to enjoy a better stay at Kimpton. Kimpton has to realize that guests who book through internet sites are very discerning consumers who will definitely review their stays (especially when the stay went bad). The hotel maybe renovated but if you get a room without a view, the only thing you will be staring at out the window would be a brick wall, with construction noise (at the time of my travel, August 2013). Complained about the noise and they moved us to a slightly larger room with the same brick wall view + huge ventilation fan box (at least it was better than the construction noise, but you need a good pair of ear plugs). Like all boutique hotels the rooms were ssssmalllllll! Will not be going to another Kimpton for a long time.
