The most important thing that you can tell about a hotel is the doormen, and at this hotel they are very professional, courteous and knowledgeable about the city. The lobby is outstanding, very grand and warm at the same time. the location is perfect to traverse throughout the city. the Art museum is around the corner and the Field Museum,Shed Aquarium,Planetarium is walking distance only in the spring and summer season maybe on a good autumn day. the hotel is very well organized. There are so many very very good restaurants in the area please use them and avoid the expensive food in this hotel. Use only in a emergency. they have a great bar, extremely good bar. The Rooms are very good, clean, and up to date

Room Tip: Try and get a top floor, less traffic.

We took the Amtrack to Chicago (which is another story in itself) and walked to the Palmer House for our stay (.8 of a mile, not a bad walk at all). We checked in over the phone and prepaid for our room so only had to go to the front desk for our key. I am in awe every time I walk into the hotel lobby. The details are so beautiful. I got a special rate on Hilton.com for the room and was very satisfied with it. Yes, very small. We stayed here another time and had got a suite but that was a waste since you are not in your room. This is Chicago you are out on the town! The bedding was so comfortable and the room had all the necessities necessary for a stay. (i.e., ironing board, iron, blow dryer, no coffee pot). I loved the bedding and bed, so comfortable. The maid service was the very best. My blowdryer broke and the maid got me a new one within 5 minutes. (She was so friendly). As far as the location goes, it doesn't get any better than this. If you go outside the bus stop going to the Shedds Aquarium and Field Museum is directly in front of the Verizon Store (you can get passes from CVS and Walgrens or pay $2.25 each way pp). Go a little further down the block and you can get the bus to go to the other side of town which is where the wedding we attended was (Fulton's North). We went shopping (via bus) to the Magnificant Mile but was kind of disappointed that we did because right around the corner from the Palmer House is more shopping you could imagine. Macy's, Nordstrom's Rack, Target, Crate and Barrel, DSW, etc. Lastly, there are plenty of places to eat. You can spend any kind of money that you want. We dined on McDonalds coffee for breakfast and stepped up our dinners. I love staying here and cannot wait to go back.

Room Tip: We stayed on the 10th floor (10179). No noise whatsoever. Our maid was absolutely wonderful...

I couldn't believe the rate on this hotel! We were going to a show at the Shubert Theater (now called Bank of America Theater) which is less than a block away. I checked to see if it would be feasible to spend the night in the city. I couldn't have been happier. The room was small, but we loved the atmosphere. It was clean and updated.

The halls are lined with portraits of famous people who have performed in the Empire Room throughout the years. The Empire Room was open, so we poked our heads in and looked around. The lobby has a ceiling that will astound you.

We've been in the building on an architecture tour and it was great fun to take a second look.

I would highly recommend this property. If you've always wanted to stay here, but thought it was too costly, check again!

Room Tip: As part of the Hilton Honors program, check for discounts.

My bad experience started after my checked out-I stayed at the Palmer House in Chicago IL, the weekend of 3/30-3/31, 2013. In comparing my bank account with check out receipt. I notice that there was an additional/double charge. I call the hotel spoke w/Ugle who finally figure it out and assured me it would be credited. as of today 4/8/2013, my account is still not credited. I called the hotel back today spoke w/Lian and she transferred me to the Corporate Office. I spoke with Dionne Czell, and Ms Czell did a guest service request and sent me an email with a reference number. After waiting a week already, she told me if do not hear form someone in 3 days I can reply to the email or call back. Now as bad as that sounds is was the best part. In my phone conversation with Ugle, she told me that she had to end our call, because she had gotten another custom. Ugle and Dionne was very rude, both sum up my problem without hearing me out, and before reviewing the situation, before commenting. In the end they understood the problem, that I had been double charged. I experience the worst customer service with Dionne and Ugle ever. They spoke when I was speaking and said to me will you listening, so they could explain what I did not say. Base in this experience, If I did not already own I would not buy, and I'm not sure that I will stay with the Hilton chain again. I stay at the Hilton when I travel and I also own at HGVC. I have been very happy with my pass stays at the Hilton. I had to end up calling my bank to resolve this problem.

Room Tip: Please use your credit card not debit card. Always check your receipt with your bank statement...

This is one of the most elegant art deco properties in the city. Enjoy a coffee or something stronger and do some people watching in the lobby. Wonderful location close to the art institute, symphony hall and other loop destinations. Handy Starbucks in the street level lobby.

On the darker side it is our third trip at this hotel over several years, two out of three times we have been greeted by a long line at reception (>15 minutes). It also seems counterintuitive that such a service based hotel would gouge you $13/day for an internet connection - all mid/budget properties provide this service as part of the room charge. You can get an hour for free at the Starbucks.

The rooms are well kept. though don't expect modern dimensions in the rooms or baths. Also the doors don't seal well so the nearer you are to the elevator the more hallway noise will leak into your room.

Stayed in this hotel during a business trip. Gorgeous hotel, and the beds were quite comfortable after a long day. The restaurant is also quite nice. Food was very good The staff was very helpful when I left something in the room after checking out.

I was in Chicago three times last year....I stayed at the palmer house Hilton a couple of times and I must say that it is really a piece of art....
go to the lobby on the first floor and admire the ceiling....its amazing...

the people in the hotel are very friendly and helpful...
especially at the front desk...too many to name but ALFRED, LESHAWN, MARCO, and numerous others won my heart....
the people at the bell desk are really amazing...the person most outstanding is mr SHAWN ONEILL....the commander like attitude of his got his pack of people going...

the room service staff are good and friendly...mr Brian Taylor....with his military like outfit...and friendly demeanour and ms Lupita and mr z.....
and the biggest plus point is the historical tour given by the inhouse historian....you have to see that one in action.

lastly the presence of MERZ the apothecary....absolutely amazing...mr Robert Blume and ms Daria...and the amazing and knowledgeable staff.....incredible array of stuff...you have to see it to believe it...and lastly the fantastic BALANCE SPA.....you have to go and try it....

I will be back I hope and pray...

Room Tip: always be polite and ask...the rooms that face the east are pretty good
