“Charm and Luxury”
Reviewed 19 April 2013

This is a beautiful heritage property that reconnects guests with the glamour and luxury of a long lost era. Location is fantastic - about a block from Millennium Park. The lobby is as spectacular as others have said. The service is good. Check-in was easy. I had two issues: rooms are small with not a lot of room to move around (which is probably what you should expect from a heritage hotel) plus the ventilation did not provide good air flow in the room. Those are minor inconveniences but they would prevent me from staying here again.

This is not a bad hotel.
When you first walk in it is a beautiful hotel. My check in was very fast with a friendly worker, no issues at all. I was even asked if I preferred to be by the elevator or not, which I thought was nice.
The room itself was generic. Nothing special could use updating for sure. However it was clean and comfortable. I was told the rooms were very tiny, however it was just me and I felt my room was standard in size. It was a little disappointing not to have a coffee pot in the room like others mentioned. I needed to depart early and none of the local coffee shops were open so having the perk of coffee in the room would have been nice especially for the cost you are paying for the room.
Overall, It was an O.K. hotel. I prefer to stay at other Hilton Hotels when I am in Chicago, but due to booking needed to stay here. I would definitely stay at one of the other hotels before this one if they were available.

Charming old fashioned hotel located right in the middle of action in the Loop. Review based on a one night stay in April (background of spending 80+ nights per year in different hotels around the globe).

Location:
Very well located in the middle of Loop with a lot of options for shopping, eating, drinking and wasting your time right in the neighborhood. Blue line of “L” maybe 100m away, direct connection to the O’Hare airport.

Room:
I received an upgrade to Executive Floor (23rd floor) to a very spacious room with two smallish bathrooms, both with combined bath & shower. Otherwise there was large LCD TV with DVD player and other typical equipment such as ironing board and a safe. Bed was good, not too soft as sometimes is the case especially in the US hotels but not a rock either. Décor was traditional but not tacky in any way, suited IMHO very well to this historical place. Room was clean and in good shape, no signs of usage / peeling wallpapers etc anywhere.

I did not hear any noise from the other rooms or corridor. Some noise from the street but I guess that’s a part of “perks” when staying in a downtown hotel.

Etc:
Hotel lobby has been rather extensively reviewed already so let’s just say it is quite impressive!

Complimentary breakfast in the executive lounge was rather basic with muffins, some fruits etc. So nothing to cheer about as such but enough to start the day.

Nice detail was the express elevator open only to people staying in executive floor, i.e. no stopping in every floor waiting for people in this large hotel.

Would I return there?
Yes sure, a charming hotel with nothing really to complain about. Unfortunately my time spent here this time was very short due to plane being 4 hours late and then waiting in the immigration queue for 2.5 hours(!) but that’s another story…

I always get a kick out of this hotel. It is a throwback in many welcome ways. The grand lobby, the ballroom, the thick walls and old-style fixtures and furnishings are a welcome change from the spare ambiance favored by many chains. My best advice for staying here is to pay a bit more, if your budget allows, to stay on one of the two executive-level floors. And join HHonors, the loyalty program. The first tactic gets you a dedicated elevator bank and the second tactic gets you a dedicated line at the reception desk. These are both important if the hotel is fully occupied, such as with a conference, with everyone coming and going at the same time. I think the quality of the food in the executive-level lounge has gone downhill recently but it is still handy for breakfast or a light snack. The hotel sits in the Loop just a few blocks from the Art Institute, Millennium Park and the waterfront. The area around the hotel is not especially refined, but there are plenty of convenience stores, casual eateries and other shopping, which is extremely handy if you forget something or just want to grab a sandwich.

This hotel has a stunning lobby. We enjoyed meeting other business associates in the lobby for a drink. It made it super convenient for us and the atmosphere is fantastic. The rooms aren't huge or lavish, but they are what you would expect at any normal hotel. The price was very good for the location and historical nature of the hotel. I'm from Nashville and a hotel similar to this one in Nashville is at least twice as much. I would definitely stay here again! I would definitely bring my spouse here if we were ever in Chicago!

It was lovely to stay there, the decor, the atmosphere, the staffs were all outstanding
The hotel is 2 minutes walks from tube station, americans called metro. There is a direct tube line goes to O'hare airport which takes approximately 25-30 minutes from the hotel, extremely convenient location.
It is also 3 or 4 blocks away from the centre where all main shops are located, it was a nice walk though.
Executive lounge does not offer much but it is quite usual for American standards, I love coffee with half and half in the States.
In the lift there was an article about celebrities who have stayed in the hotel in the past.
