“Grand Historic Gem!”
Reviewed 29 April 2014

The King room was very nice. Room size was small but to be expected in this historic hotel. The bed was very comfortable and the pillows were great. The room was very clean and service was prompt each morning. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The bar area was quite charming and spacious. Overall the decor was dramatic and beautiful. The hotel is in a really good location, close to shopping and transportation.

Room Tip: Stay away from room 16123, which is just off the housekeeping room.

This venerable old hotel is in a great location in Chicago's Loop. It recently underwent a renovation and, although we certainly enjoyed our stay here, there were a number of things that struck us as odd and lacking in attention to detail. They didn't seem to have replaced the tub. It and its faucets appeared to be about 40 years old, as did the rings holding up the shower curtain. There was a 70's era retractable string for drying laundry over the tub. There was mildew in the grout and the floor looked to be original - cracked and chipped marble that hadn't been cleaned in a while as well as having missing grout in places. The paint on the bathroom ceiling was peeling. The sink was very tiny and set into a vanity in a corner that made reaching anything very difficult. Even the electrical outlet was way in the back, which meant that your electric cord snaked over the sink - seems a safety issue. The new faucet on the sink had caps missing. There were no glasses in the bathroom - just 2 in the mini-bar. Water pressure was poor and there were NO towel bars in the bathroom - just one hook. The room itself was spacious and nicely decorated, but there was no luggage rack and the crown molding only went around 3 sides of the room - ?!!?! I am a Hilton Honors Gold member and the line to check in at the Honors desk was ridiculously long and took forever. I finally went to the regular line and was checked in much faster there. Staff was pleasant. Overall the property is very nice and we'd likely stay there again if the price was right. I just wish they'd done a better job with the renovations.

Each time I have stayed at the Palmer House, my expectations have always been exceeded, and this time was no exception. When she learned I woukd be joined for the weekend by my adult daughter, Tatiyana upgraded me from a King room to a double/double with 2 bathrooms! What an amazing convenience it was to not have to coordinate our bathroom usage. The fitness center is first rate and I was able to make use of the indoor pool and jacuzzi -- though the chlorine levels in the latter were too high for my eyes. The hotel is only a couple of blocks from the Art Institute and the Monroe Station on the CTA Red Line is just outside the hotel doors. Breakfast in Lockwood restaurant in the hotel's lobby was included in our room rate, and it was a perfect start to our day. I look forward to my return visit!

The Palmer House is a grand old hotel, providing contemporary amenities in a glamorous setting from the early to mid 20th century. The lobby and ballroom are gorgeous and evocative of days gone by; the meeting rooms are efficient and comfortable; the bedrooms are what one would expect from a hotel of Hilton's quality. The room I stayed in was comfortable and had everything I needed, and at a great price. It wasn't large, but big enough. Food was very good; drinks also - though those were expensive. One of the best things about this hotel is the location -- walkable to all the great sights in town, from Millenium Park and the Art Institute, to State Street and Michigan Avenue shopping, right there in the Loop. Service was very friendly and gracious -- what I would expect from warm Chicagoans! Loved my stay.

Room Tip: My room faced other rooms. It didn't bother me -- I walked outside as often as possible so didn...

Having stayed here in the past I was happy to be returning to this beautiful hotel for business. At the check-in desk we were joined by a large group of fraternity college students all toting enormous ice chests and definitely in "party mode". The noise level on the floor was ridiculous until 3 a.m. both nights and we encountered spilled beer in the elevators. I felt as if I were in an all inclusive resort at spring break. Not sure why the management allowed this to go on but I will not be returning.

Room Tip: The regular king-sized bedrooms are very small.

The Palmer House was Grand !!!. Easy to access by subway from O'Hare . Close to everything you would want to see and experience in Chicago. Staff couldn't be more pleasant to deal with. I have nothing negative to say. We"ll definitely be back!!!

Room Tip: I would recommend staying on the executive floors. It's worth it!!!!

The hotel is beautiful. The food is exceptional including the free snacks in the bar. The setting is warm and comfortable. I especially enjoyed seeing the pictures of entertainers and stars from the 1950's and 1960's on the walls. I would highly recommend this hotel.
