When you walk into the lobby you can't help but be taken in by the absolute beauty and history of Palmer House.

Its as majestic and beautiful as every picture you have seen online if not more so;
Have a drink at the lobby bar and take it all in.

That aside;

Check In is seemingly always a gong-show.
Even with a dedicated desk for HHonors Diamond there always seems to be a glut of people ahead of you which take forever to complete their requests.

The most recent stay I was in line to check in at the Diamond desk for 20 minutes, I can't even imagine how long folks in the regular line which was snaked in the lobby would have waited.

Once I had my room key I was off;
This time around I didn't end up on the executive floors (which are excellent) but rather on the 19th floor (which was fine).

The rooms are small-ish.
Not terrible but not exactly functional.

They are comfortable as they are standard Hilton fare but nothing matching how impressed you will be with the lobby.

The location is excellent;
You are walking distance to any number of things you likely want to be in walking distance of.

Valet parking is expensive;
But they are responsive, i called down from my room, gathered my bags together, went down to the garage and my car was ready and waiting, twice.

Thank you for sharing your comment and pointing out our beautiful and majestic Lobby. It is recognized as a gem, not only of the Palmer House but also the City of Chicago.

We are trying new and different things to speed up the check in process. The separate Diamond Desk is one of the new areas that we implemented to get our Diamond members in and up to their rooms quickly and efficiently. With our dedication to customer service, we always answer every question that a guest may have and this may hold up the line just a little bit. We have gotten so much better in the check in process but we will continue to look for ways to improve.

Thank you again for sharing and for being a Diamond member.

This location is ideal for shopping the Magnificient Mile or sightseeing to the various museums. The rates are very competitive; the hotel staff is very knowledgeable and the rooms are clean and accommodating to either business or pleasure.

Room Tip: I would select a room away from the elevators on a higher floor to avoid any transportation noise fr...

If your agenda includes the Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium, Millennium Park or the Art Institute of Chicago, the Palmer House is a great location. It's also one of the most beautiful hotels around with a fabulous lobby bar and great food.

Our room was on a Hilton Honors floor. We had two double beds and two bathrooms. The hospitality on this floor is very good. The breakfast spread includes hot items like sausage and eggs as well as yogurts, granola, hard boiled eggs, croissants and fruit. The early evening reception usually had a theme and offers enough for a pick me up after a day of walking and sightseeing. Tea, coffee, and sodas are always available from the executive lounge. There is a cash bar for beer, wine and other drinks.

I had to go to Chicago for a conference. I loved the lobby decor. The pool and the gym were also welcome. I did switch rooms, but my second room was spacious. (my first room looked onto the "L"!) the 1st room was a bit cramped relative to the photo. The room was not very bright, but I guess that's life with skyscrapers around. Very nicely situated. Reservation service was quite long and impersonal.

The location is ideal for someone who wants to take in the sites of Chicago. This historic hotels is so cool. It is beautiful. We don't build places like this anymore. Walking to my room and looking at all the photos is probably my favorite part. Service has been exceptional.

Room Tip: Love both rooms I have stayed in.

Great location close to the Millennium Park. As the hotel is old it seems to have variation in rooms where some are more spacious and include different amenities. Recommend getting one not close to elevators as atleast the room I had wasn't so soundproof.

There was ok gym and nice small indoor pool too.

Historical hotel lovely ceiling around the bar area. It is not a cheap hotel and for the price paid I felt the service was average. This started with the check-in which for US customer service was uninspiring. One of the bar staff pissed me off because on 3 occasions I visited the bar there was always a different procedure to pay. It was like he was making it up as he went along. The rooms were average my view like that of The Grand in Brighton was of another brick wall. The good news is the elevators were good, wifi was of a good quality and the view of the ceiling in the bar area us worth a look. Look into the history of the hotel it is fascinating. For those visiting the Arts academy of Chicago it is 2 blocks away and conveniently located in The Loop. The local train will wake you up every morning!

Room Tip: Try and avoid the right wing the train rumbles by

Hello Valued Guest,

Our hotel is conveniently nestled in the middle of downtown Chicago. The claim to fame is why we are so close to everything that Chicago has to offer but is also the reason why we are surrounded by other structures.

Our hotel was the first to use the invention of the elevator and hearing that you didn't have any trouble with them is not a surprise to out property operation engineers. They work very hard in making sure that they run smooth each and every time.

Your comments about the bar deserves some extra attention. There should be one uniformed way of settling a tab and your comments has now shed some light on this for us. Thank you for your review.
