The Fairmont Chicago was great. We stayed here for 3 nights and liked it. It's not a very fancy hotel and the amenities are minimal. No pool or jacuzzi at the hotel. The room we were in (king) was very clean and specious, modern and simple. The hotel is not far from Michigan Ave but not in a msin area. It's close to Millennium Park which is nice but there's a 10-15 minutes walk to the Michigan Ave. bridge. A great stay overall, wish there was a pool and/or jacuzzi.

Delightful large room and bath in the Millenium Park location with my room facing east to the park and lake. Extra cost for gym, Internet and breakfast. No in room coffee maker. Bonus points for their chain only. For these prices I'd expect more.

I stayed at the Fairmont Chicago with my 17-year-old daughter and her best friend on our trip to Lollapalooza this month. We arrived at the Fairmont at around noon and I was very pleasantly surprised that our room was ready for check-in. I had booked a Fairmont Gold Suite and it was absolutely stunning! Not only was the suite enormous, it had a fantastic view of Lake Michigan. The king bed was very comfortable, although not quite as nice as their Boston hotel. The bathroom was nice, large, and well-stocked with products, large towels, and robes. The sofa bed was pretty uncomfortable so the friend ended up just sleeping on the sofa, which was fine.

The Gold lounge is quite nice. The breakfasts were pretty good and it was so nice to be able to run up there and get free sodas and waters. We definitely got our money's worth on that! The location is great and perfect for Lollapalooza--about a half mile walk which is far enough to get away from the craziness but close enough that the teenagers don't whine too much about having to walk. It is also an easy walk to the Magnificent Mile, Navy Pier, and State Street.

The staff is very nice, professional, and helpful. The housekeeper was very accommodating to our requests for extra towels, glasses, etc. The wifi is great--no problems getting online--and free if you are a member of their frequent stay club. I have nothing negative to say about our stay and I highly recommend this Fairmont.

Room Tip: Choose a Gold suite to get an incredible room with a great view.

The extra 1/2 is for the sincere effort of the staff. Others would give it a 4 but I'm a brat. To make it brief I'll list what I like and didn't like. As I have already said the staff is friendly, helpful and understood my "suggestions" but their hands were tied to make changes/ improvements. What I liked:
I liked the rate we received, the impressive list of amenities, especially if you joined their club. There is no charge, so join. You will get free wifi. The list of perks is too long, go online to see. We had a Gold Room which allowed us access to the concierge lounge. I liked how roomy our room was. (It was a Gold King room). The windows were wall-to-wall and the view was nice. The bathroom was very nice with separate space for a glassed-in shower, a door to close for the toilet and the bathroom was still useable, and a soaking tub. All fixtures were updated. There was a nice sized closet. Although we didn't use the Spa, we took a look and is was a very nice facility, complete with a steam room. The location was good as we could walk to Millinium Park and The Art Institute. You could walk to the Magnificent if you were fit .

What I didn't like. Although there was a soaking tub, it was narrow and was not deep enough. There were only four drawers in the room and they were on the floor ( two in the nightstands and two in a bench at the end of the bed. The bedding. Our bed was too soft but after the first night and day with a sore back, they inserted a board. That worked. The pillows were awful in spite of the fact they had three different choices. The linens were so-so. One word about the dumbest thing I've seen yet, there is a safe on a giant pedestal in the MIDDLE of the closet! Although the Gold lounge was a pleasant space and some of the food was good some of the time (excellent smoked salmon, Prosciutto ham, Genoa salami, croissants). BUT it was served twice a day EVERY day and thank God it was because the other offerings were nothing. But you even get tired of a good thing when it's all you get. BREAKFAST WAS PRETTY GOOD but when the evening offering included deep fried mac n' cheese balls it makes you wonder who they think they're catering to. Even thought the croissants were good, they were soggy as were the pastries. The bread and bagels came out of plastic bags. Not worth the calories. There was no way to heat bread items or make toast. Worst was when we arrived and thought we could get a bite at the lounge after a day of travel. We hadn't eaten all day and were told we hade to wait an hour and a half for food. The only offering was a cookie. Not very welcoming for a concierge floor. Other minuses; There was no rooftop lounge or a pretty place to sit outside. I wasn't impressed with any of the food offerings in the hotel. They need a good Restaurant. Oh, and the walls are tissue paper.

It wouldn't take much to make this hotel a top contender, just a little tweaking.

Room Tip: Don't get a room near the elevators. You can hear everything.

Nothing more than average hotel. I was here because of conference, but there is better hotels at Chicago downtown. My room was on 27th floor, big and clean. The hotel is located in downtown Chicago, near the Loop and the Magnificent mile with easy access to sightseeing tours and shopping.

Stayed at the Fairmont for a long-weekend getaway. Pros - good location, clean rooms, helpful concierge. Cons - shower sucked (spray not effective and the shower head dripped close to the wall making It necessary to put my head right up to the wall to wash my hair)

Our first visit to Chicago, we stayed at the Fairmont for 5 days, we took advantage of the Gold Floor, includes Breakfast, afternoon snacks and soft drinks, you can have alcohol and pay for those drinks too. Our room was very clean and well appointed with nice views of Navy Pier and Millennium Park.Very friendly and helpful staff, felt like home, would recommend as a good place to stay.

Room Tip: Try and get an upgrade and join the Presidents club, it includes vouchers for a suite upgrade and a...
