This review is based on a stay in July 2013, when the hotel was called Wyndham Blake Chicago.
I had booked a "Superior" King room a good time in advance, and was initially given one on the 3rd floor. While the room was "okay" (small, and didn't have the big bathroom), it didn't smell fresh, and was almost on street level and once again next to an elevator. It absolutely was not worth the almost $300 a night they charge in July around weekends.
Because of the noise - I was aware of the high price so that wasn't the sole reason - I simply inquired whether it would be possible to get a similar room on a higher floor, and got almost immediately a free upgrade to a huge room (possibly a "King Suite"?) on the 9th floor no questions asked - SUPERB service there and certainly made me very happy!!
The upgraded suite / room was beautiful, big and has the large double-sink marble bathroom. It also had a lounge chair, desk, a comfy sofa and plenty, plenty of room. Very happy!
Noise is an issue from other rooms and from the busy street below. Bring good earplugs (I always do) and you won't have a problem - the king bed is wide and awesome, firm but very comfortable!
Unfortunately the WiFi signal on the 9th floor was between poor and nonexistent, it barely worked. There also isn't a minibar (fridge) in the rooms, so you couldn't store cold drinks or snacks etc. You can rent one for $25/night... There's a 7-Eleven next door, so it isn't that necessary.
There is pretty much nothing closeby, so you have to hop on the EL to go elsewhere for dinner. There is a pricey pizza place (which also delivered to the hotel as their "room service"), a Starbucks and an Epic Burger around the corner.
Luckily there are Blue/Brown/Pink (LaSalle) and Red (Harrison) line stations within a short distance, a couple blocks.
I didn't have any problems with hot water or water pressure, or the air conditioning.
