I was very impressed by this hotel. The provided champagne and chocolate in the lobby each day. Not a whole lot of each but a very nice touch. Decor was nice. My room was bigger than what you generally get for a standard king room. The gym was nice with more equipment than usual and a very nice view. The staff was very friendly. It was near enough to restaurants and drug stores and within walking distance of a lot of nice places.

Room Tip: Be sure and tell them if you want a larger room as I have read that some are not so big. If you don...

8/14 - Came to Chicago for business training for 2 days. Arrived at the Hotel Blake to find an absolute gem! From the unpretentious yet classy lobby to the gracious, fun loving staff, my 2 nights at the Hotel Blake were F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S! The hotel and my room were clean and the air was fresh smelling but not because someone emptied an aerosol can freshner. The lobby attendant, Showtime, is one of the friendliest people that I've ever met and made my arrival in Chicago and the hotel almost like a family reunion. I will come back to Chicago in the near future with my family. And, there is only one place for us to stay and that's at the Hotel Blake.

We took a four day trip to Chicago, arriving by train from Port Huron, Michigan around noon. Fifteen minute walk from Union Station. Early check in was no problem. Staff very polite. Concierge gentlemen were extremely helpful. Quick breakfast nearby at Panera started the day off. The restaurants near the Blake meant we didn't have to go far after a busy day of sightseeing. The restaurant (Macedonian/Greek?) attached to the hotel (Meli Cafe) had a small dinner menu but our meal was more than adequate. Another decent italian restaurant (Sofi) was nearby. Hotel was only a 10 minute walk to Michigan Ave to pick up the red double decker tour bus. (The Blake was very close to one of these trolley stops: http://www.coachusa.com/chicagotrolley/).

Our room was clean and quiet. The only minor complaint (really minor) was that the toilets are pressure assisted and are really, really noisy, especially in the middle of the night (!). Nonetheless, given our positive experience at the Blake and it's convenience, we will likely re-book there for our next Chicago trip.

Upon arriving we were amazed at the proximity to Chicago's most sought after attractions. The check-in process was quick and simple, we were given a room on a lower floor than we may have thought we wanted, but upon arriving to our room we were delighted with impressively high ceilings and a perfect view of the Willis (Sears) Tower. Our room viewed the alley to the west of the hotel, but this wasn't a bad view, it sheltered us from any possible urban noise (we are from LA) but also gave us great views. From check-in to check-out this was a hotel I would recommend to anyone. It was just a beautiful property with the added benefit it is highly historic (at least the northern portion of the property.) We were able to walk to all of downtown Chicago's sights and take the light rail to the airport. If we returned to this beautiful city i would check this hotel first for a reservation.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the historic section (northern section) away from the street, that way you will ex...

We came into Chicago for Lollapalooza 2014. We drove 10.5 hours to get to the hotel early enough on Friday for the show, which started at 11. I called two days ahead of time to ask about early check-in, and it was no problem at all when we arrived on Friday. I'm sure there were a lot of other people at the hotel doing the same thing as us, but they didn't bat an eyelash at the fact that we were checking in 3+ hours early.

There is valet at the hotel, but we found a cheaper lot about 2 blocks away. It was really convenient walk to and from the parking lot. We reserved our space on Parking Panda before we got to Chicago, and I think we payed like $50ish for Friday-Monday. We parked in the lot off of LaSalle.

Our room was facing a neighboring building, so we didn't have a view of the city. That's not the reason we stayed, so this didn't bother us at all. It was actually super quiet. This was probably one of the quietest rooms I've ever stayed in for both outside and hotel noise. I was impressed with that.

There is no complimentary breakfast, but there's a Cuban restaurant called Cafecito about two blocks away, near Grant Park, that has really good, really cheap breakfast sandwiches. There's also a 7-Eleven on the other side of Harrison, and a subway on Clark St, near the parking lot we parked in. It's a quick 10 minute walk to Grant Park, if that long. The room was really clean and comfortable. The bed and pillows were actually really nice too. There was a safe in our room, but not refrigerator.

They only drawback that I can find is that a few of the staff were not overly friendly. They were not rude, by any means, though. Just not as openly friendly as we're accustomed to (we're from Virginia).

Overall, the Hotel Blake was an excellent stay for the price paid. The convenience factor for our stay was second to none. We would definitely stay here again if in Chicago.

I stayed in the Blake Hotel in July this year with my husband and 2 grown up children for 2 nights. The staff were very friendly and the hotel, whilst not the height of modern luxury, was perfect for its location and very reasonable price. It was very comfortable. Couldn't fault it. Compared with West Coast hotels - it was a snip!

The hotel is in a great location and the staff was very helpful. Showtime was outstanding. He went out of his way to help us get a dinner reservation. Hotel needs a facelift but can overlook for service and location.
