This is a small city hotel with small rooms. You are not booking a room at a suite hotel in the suburbs. Keep this in mind, and your experience will match your expectations. It is clean, well appointed and in a nice neighborhood.

The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful, from the manager on down.

Also, the hotel has many rooms with a single bed and assigns them by default to parties of two who book on discount hotel websites. You may need to do some cajoling or pay an upcharge to get a room with two beds.

There is coffee and hot water in the lobby in the morning, but none in the room.

yeah yeah yeah the rooms are small. And I didn't have a view BUT even though small the rooms are nice. The hotel is nice. The location is great. Seriously the staff is so accommodating. My only wish is for a small fridge in the room because I have left over deep dish pizza :)
I'd love to stay here again. You also can't beat the price.

Thanks for your review BethFarmer! Next time you stay with us just call down to the front desk and request a mini fridge - if we have one available we'll send one right up. We don't automatically keep them in rooms due to our eco-friendly policies. We're so glad you enjoyed your stay, please visit us again soon! Thanks again.

I traveled to Chicago 10/11-10/13 for a weekend with some old friends. The city's hotel prices were insane that weekend because of (a) 3-day Columbus Day weekend and (b) the Chicago Marathon. So we decided to just use Priceline's Negotiator to get whatever 4-star hotel we could for under $250. We got Hotel Felix. Boo.

The Pros:
1) Location is excellent. Walking distance to lots of great River North stuff, including restaurants, bars and shops. Also close to the Red Line, which gets you to many great places.

2) The lobby is nice.

The Cons:
1) Since we bought our room through a "discount site" (as described by the check-in clerk), we were not able to make any sort of room requests. Thus we got a TINY room with a queen bed, instead of a room with 2 beds. They treated us like 2nd class citizens even though we'd paid over $500 for 2 nights for a room that typically lists at about $129-149 a night. Ruuude.

2) TINY TINY TINY rooms. There is no other way to describe our room. We had a about 3 feet of space on either side of a queen bed. That's it. And the world's tiniest closet. There was barely enough room for the 2 of us, let alone our two weekend bags. There is no dresser, just drawers under the bed. Horrifying. HORRIFYING.

3) Loud. If you get a room facing Clark St., it's loud. Bar goers. Cabbies honking. Definitely bring ear plugs.

4) HORRIBLE PILLOWS. The pillows we got were like bags of horribly deformed cotton balls. They were supremely uncomfortable, and for the first night I slept just on the mattress. We requested 2 replacements, and they sent us the dinkiest little pillows ever. Again: RUDE.

5) The room has many flaws. For a 4-star boutique hotel, the front trim of our bathroom sink was peeling off, you get a cheap shower curtain, and only 3 towels. Plus, the carpets were only moderately clean. Definitely not as sleek and trendy and "clean" as the website shows.

I will never ever ever in a million years stay here again. Ever. And if you have any other options, go with them.

Hello dtsbesq, thank you for your review. We're glad you enjoyed our location in the heart of downtown Chicago, steps away from the city's finest shopping, dining and attractions. While our rooms are cozy in nature, we're proud of our eco-friendly efforts. Thanks again and we hope you have a nice day.

Hotel Felix is a good simple clean boutique hotel. The location is convenient, the staff was very courteous and professional, and the rooms are clean. However, the queen room was very tiny and the layout was inefficient. There was no closet space and when you opened the door it hit the luggage stand. I'm used to being in small rooms having traveled and stayed at Japanese and other Asian business hotels but this was extremely small or at least not layed out well. I booked here as it was the hotel that was sponsored by the conference was attending. While the hotel was OK, I will probably not return here.

A really pretty hotel with friendly service - this place has a lot more character than anywhere else you'll stay in downtown Chicago for the price. The rooms aren't huge but they're handsome. I enjoyed grabbing a takeaway coffee on my way through the lounge in the mornings, and there's a really handy Wholefoods round the corner for picking up eats if you're in a hurry (I was attending a conference while at the Felix), or an interesting beer to drink back in your hotel room. Breakfast is really good value too - the granola, fruit and yoghurt is generous and delicious and healthy, a good start to the day.

As for the location, it's just perfect.

Arrival - After getting out of the cab we were greeted by the friendliest bellman! When we walked into the lobby... it smelled wonderful! We arrived several hours before check-in and because there were rooms available they allowed us to check-in early! Sweet deal.

Rooms - Our rooms were small and some travelers may be turned-off by this. We were only there for a night and hardly in our rooms so it wasn't an issue. Also, whenever I stay at a boutique-style hotel I don't expect large rooms. The linens ere so soft and comfy and the room was nicely appointed and modern. The bathroom was a shower only, no tub but the Le Occtaine toiletries were wonderful!

Location - walking distance or a short, cheap cab ride from all things great in downtown Chicago

Thank you for your review hello_capi! We had fun reading your breakdown of your stay. We're so glad you enjoyed our bellman, they work very hard to ensure our guests have the best experience possible. Aren't our L'Occitane products phenomenal? We really enjoy them as well. I was a bit hesitant with this hotel after having read some of the not so friendly reviews. We were in town for a wedding and most of the travelers were staying here so we gave it a try.

From the outside, Hotel Felix looks like any other old building in town until you get up for a closer inspection. The artwork outside the front doors provides for an interesting welcome. The hotel provides a Door Man who greets you at the curb, assists with luggage, hails taxis, etc. Very helpful.

Once inside, the hotel displays a beautiful lobby entrance. There was no wait at the front desk and our check in went smooth. Jordan at the front desk was very pleasant and helpful.

There are three elevators so the wait to get upstairs to your room isn't very long at all. Our room was ready and clean. I will say that the room was on the small side but that did not turn out to be an issue.

We had no issues with water pressure, even with the low flow fixtures. The bathroom sink is shallow, but not worth the complaints that other reviewers have posted.

Our room was nicely appointed with modern furnishings and had everything we needed. The carpeting is supposedly made from recycled soda bottles which obviously assisted with the achievement of a LEED Silver rating. Not overly plush but still comfy on our feet. The bed was comfortable and the room was quiet. Wifi was available and worked without any issues.

Complimentary coffee was ready by 6:00AM in the lounge area the next morning. Housekeeping staff were friendly, efficient, and thorough before noon. The front desk staff was helpful in assisting with locating restaurants, excursions, and even a shoe repair (thanks again Jordan). The business center was clean and ready for use in printing our boarding passes. Everything we needed, Hotel Felix provided.

The location is fantastic. Shopping, sights, restaurants, and nightclubs are all within walking distance. We plan to return to this hotel to catch up on lots of sights that we unfortunately didn't see during our 3 night stay.

Room Tip: The rooms with two beds provide considerably more space if you need it. Our single bed room was tig...
