The best Chicago dog we tried was right at the base of our hotel, the Palmer House. Max's is a tiny shop where you place your order, wait a few minutes, and go back to your room with a big, juicy Chicago dog with all the trimmings. Fries were good too.

While staying at the Palmer Hioton, I was looking for a real Chicago hot dog and had a list of several places. Every one I asked around the hotel said Max's was good and close, just around the corner. They were right. The hot dog had evrything but cheese, including neon green relish. It was a lot better than I ever imagined, couldn't really taste the relish per se, but everything blended together very well. The fries were about as good as any I've had at a fast food place ever. Didn't get a chance but wanted to go back. Next time will try the italian beef.

Some might consider this a dive, but that is where you get the best burgers. There were six of us with five of us getting cheeseburgers and the other a Polish. You wait in line and order your food. There is a counter to dine, but we take ours over to the garden of the Art Institute down the block. The burgers came with everything on this great tasting bun (most takeout places the burgers come on those standard bagged buns from Wonder, not Max's). The fries were crispy and came in little paper bags. The polish was spicy and came with the typical Chicago hot dog toppings. $40 to feed a family of six - what a deal!

This was a good place to grab a quick hot dog. It was well dressed but the dog was like warm. I don't know how it compares to other places for a Chicago style hot dog but I wouldn't walk past another place in favor of Max's. they also have gyros on the menu.
